Former Colorado Star LaJohntay Wester Reflects on Coach Prime’s Influence as He Makes His NFL Debut

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, is one of the most influential coaches in college football today. Most of his players have nothing but good things to say about him after they leave the team. This year, many of those players started their NFL careers, including Baltimore Ravens wide receiver LaJohntay Wester.

Wester played one season for Coach Prime, but it had a big impact. He blossomed in Colorado and became a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. On Monday, in an interview with “Bowie TV” at Baltimore Ravens training camp, LaJohntay Wester reflected on Coach Prime’s influence.

“Man, it was a blessing coming to play with Coach Prime,” LaJohntay Wester said (5:20). “You know, you see it. I seen it when I was at FAU. I’m like, ‘Man, I want to be a part of that.’ Like, just having a head coach with that type of swag, that type of player mentality, like, they’re gonna have to come in here and beat us. He didn’t change for nobody, just his position changed. And I think that intrigued me and brought me in more.

“And wanted me to be a part of that just ’cause he led them like the whole university. And he pushed me day in and day out. Like, he tested me as a man, as a player, everything. So, it was great playing with him. That’s my dog. I mean, at the end of the day, we had our ups and downs, but that’s my dog, man,” he added.

Deion Sanders’ Former Player, LaJohntay Wester, Earns Praise from Baltimore OC

LaJohntay Wester made his preseason NFL debut this past weekend in a 24-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts. In the game, Wester was targeted three times and made two receptions for 41 yards.

On Tuesday, offensive coordinator Todd Monken spoke about how he sees Wester growing into a bigger role on the team down the road. He mentioned that he is going to be “a heck of a weapon.”

This season, it is not clear what kind of role Wester will have on the Ravens. He is one of the second-string wide receivers, according to the depth chart.
