Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza Leads College Football Heisman Rankings
The top two spots have been taken by two Big Ten member players.
In the latest poll, Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza continues to stay at the top and led his program to another win last week to stay unbeaten with an 11-0 record. Following the latest win over Wisconsin, Mendoza has passed for 2,641 yards with 30 touchdowns against five interceptions.
Mendoza is followed by Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin, who registered a 48-10 win against UCLA last week to keep his team unbeaten (10-0). He has thrown for 2,675 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, but is missing out on highlight plays.
At No. 3 comes Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, who is posting incredible numbers this season. Love has rushed for a touchdown in every game this season except the opener against Miami. While it’s still early to say, the $1.6 million NIL star (via On3) can become the first running back to win the Heisman Trophy since Derrick Henry in 2015.
Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed had a massive game against South Carolina last week. Down by 30-3 at one point in the game, Reed finished with a season-high 439 passing yards and three scores after throwing two early interceptions. As a result, the Aggies emerged as 31-30 winners, while Reed also raised his Heisman stock.
Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia takes the fifth spot after resting last week. Just before that, he had his best game of the season in the win against Auburn, throwing a season-high 377 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 112 yards and a score.
Alabama Crimson Tide Ty Simpson struggled last week against Oklahoma. He threw a pick-six while throwing for 326 yards and a touchdown. With Bama being a playoff contender, there’s still a lot left for Simpson to account for his Heisman stock.
Another Ohio State player finding his place in the top 10 is wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. He shares the spot with Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King. The final two spots are taken by Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton and Oregon’s Dante Moore.
