Matt Entz Hired as Fresno State Head Coach
In what was a foregone conclusion that he would eventually return to the head coaching realm, Entz was brought back to the leading post with Fresno State, taking over for Jeff Tedford (and Tim Skipper). Entz, who won two national titles with North Dakota State, left to become a positional coach at USC last offseason and now makes the move back to the head coaching post.

December 4 Coaching Carousel Updates
UMass to Hire Rutgers’ Joe Harasymiak as Head Coach
The Minutemen are staying in the northeast for their next hire, bringing on Rutgers defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak as their next head coach. Harasymiak replaces Don Brown after three successful seasons as the Scarlet Knights’ defensive coordinator. He returns to the head coaching realm after three years as the head coach at Maine, where Harasymiak compiled a 20-15 record, turning around the Black Bears in Year 3.

Nebraska Hiring Kentucky’s Daikiel Shorts as WR Coach
The Cornhuskers have moved to bring on Daikiel Shorts as their new wide receivers coach. This plucks Shorts away from Mark Stoops’ staff in Kentucky, where he held the same position. A rising star gets a new challenge in 2025.

Ball State Hires Mike Uremovich as Head Coach
The Cardinals have hired former Butler head coach Mike Uremovich as their next head coach, replacing the fired Mike Neu. Uremovich finished his tenure at Butler with three straight winning seasons and has experience in the MAC before that.

North Texas Hiring Skyler Cassity as Defensive Coordinator
The Mean Green are reportedly hiring Skyler Cassity away from Sam Houston, following Keeler’s departure from the Bearkats. Cassity served as SHSU’s DC in 2024, helping Sam Houston rank 15th in yards allowed per play this past season.

Michigan Fires Offensive Coordinator Kirk Campbell
The Wolverines ranked just 122nd nationally in yards per play this season, and made the move on Tuesday to fire offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell.

Texas Tech Eyeing Shiel Wood as Next Defensive Coordinator
The Red Raiders have seemingly found one of the new coordinators they’ll need, pushing for Shiel Wood as their next defensive coordinator. Wood was brought along with head coach Willie Fritz from Tulane to Houston this past season, serving as the Cougars defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. This is according to 247Sports Matt Zenitz.

App State Fires Head Coach Shawn Clark
For the first time in over a decade, the Mountaineers finished with a losing record. And that was enough for Shawn Clark to be relieved of his duties with App State as he finished with a 40-24 overall record as the head coach.

FAU Hires Zach Kittley as Head Coach
The Owls didn’t wait long to make their move, going for the splash hire with the most room to grow. Kittley, who is only 33 years old, will bring the Air Raid offense to the state of Florida for the first time after successful stints as the offensive coordinator at Houston Baptist, Western Kentucky, and, most recently, Texas Tech.

Oklahoma to Hire Washington State Offensive Coordinator Ben Arbuckle
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to fulfill their open offensive coordinator position by hiring Washington State’s Ben Arbuckle. Serving as the Cougars’ OC for the past two seasons, Arbuckle will take over for the fired Seth Littrell as Arbuckle continues his rise.

Temple Hires KC Keeler as Head Coach
In a bit of a stunner, KC Keeler is headed north from Sam Houston to Temple. Keeler ushered in the Bearkats to the rank of the FBS with great success and will be tasked with taking over a Temple team in the basement of the AAC.

November 30 Coaching Carousel Updates
UCF Head Coach Gus Malzahn Resigns
It was just moments after the final regular season game that ESPN reported UCF head coach Gus Malzahn has resigned. And it was moments after that that it was leaked Florida State had hired Malzahn as their offensive coordinator.
The former SEC head man compiled a 28-24 record with the Knights over four seasons.

North Carolina Fires Head Coach Mack Brown
Despite reports that he wanted to stay around, Brown’s second tenure as the head coach of North Carolina came to a screeching halt. Brown finished his second stint at just 44-32. His overall record with the program, however, finishes with 113 wins.

Tulsa Fires Head Coach Kevin Wilson
After losing 63-30 to USF, Tulsa made quick work to dismiss Wilson. In two seasons with the Golden Hurricane, Wilson compiled just a 7-17 record.

ECU Promotes Blake Harrell to Head Coach
Harrell took over for the fired Mike Houston on an interim basis, but after leading the team to a 4-0 record and turning their offense around, Harrell was promoted to head coach.

Rice Hires Former Davidson Head Coach Scott Abell as New Head Coach
Rice got their man before the season was finished, tabbing Scott Abell as their next head coach. Abell comes over from Davidson where he won 47 games since 2018. A head coach since 2012, Abell has a career record of 86-52 with a stint at Washington & Lee before Davidson.

November 20 Coaching Carousel Updates
Central Michigan Head Coach Jim McElwain Retires
Following the 2024 season, McElwain retired from his post at the helm of the Chippewas. The former SEC Coach of the Year compiled a 77-63 overall record as a head coach of Colorado State, Florida, and CMU.

Charlotte Fires Head Coach Biff Poggi
The outrageous hire that was Poggi has come to an end. After two seasons, Poggi compiled just a 6-16 record and failed to materialize any of his portal prowess onto the field.

Herman, who was among the first major college football coaches to receive a massive buyout, was relieved after nearly two seasons at the helm of the Owls. Over the past two seasons, FAU went just 6-16 with Herman in charge.

UMass Fires Head Coach Don Brown
You certainly have to give Brown credit as UMass is one of the hardest jobs in all of the FBS. Still, in his second stint as the head coach of the Minutemen, Brown had just a 6-28 record in three seasons. Only two of those wins came against FBS competition.

Kennesaw State Fires Head Coach Brian Bohannon
In a coaching carousel classic he-said, they-said moment, Kennesaw State gave Bohannon his walking papers midway through November. Despite showing back up the very next day to welcome his players, Bohannon finished with a 1-8 record in KSU’s first season at the FBS level.

Rice Fires Head Coach Mike Bloomgren
He was certainly under a lot of scrutiny before the ultimate end to his tenure at Rice as the Owls let him go following an embarrassing loss to UConn. Bloomgren served seven years without a winning record and finished with a 24-52 mark with the program.

ECU Fires Head Coach Mike Houston
After he was unable to rekindle the success that saw him vault into the FBS level in the first place, ECU fired Houston following a loss to Army on October 20. Houston finished with an abysmal record of 0-7 to in-state opponents, a cardinal sin in the Carolinas.

Hall was finally let go from his post after finished with a 14-32 record over his three-plus seasons. After landing a bowl game in 2022, Hall and the Eagles had been on rocky terms.

Utah State Fires Head Coach Blake Anderson
Anderson was relieved of his command before the season began after being placed on administrative leave. Anderson ‘failed to manage the team in a manner that reflects USU’s academic values,’ a statement from the university read.
