The 2025 college football season has finally reached Week 5, and like many, some teams need to rest, both the ones which have been struggling and the ones which have been surging. Bye weeks can do wonders to a team’s morale, and in Week 5, several notable teams are expected not to play this week as they rest up their players and get ready for other big challenges.

Ranked College Football Teams With A Bye In Week 5
Miami Hurricanes
The Hurricanes enter Week 3 as the new No. 2 team in college football after beating in-state rivals, the Florida Gators, and go up 4-0. Carson Beck and his crew have been red-hot so far and proving that they are one of the teams to beat, and they did that for four straight weeks. Now they get to relax a bit and rest ahead of their matchup against their other in-state rival, Florida State next week.
Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners have remained undefeated as well, and they went up the AP Top 25 rankings to No. 7, going up four places from Week 4. They get a much-needed rest week as they host Kent State next Saturday.
Florida State Seminoles
Florida State had been riding high ever since they defeated Alabama in their opener but have faced a road bump in an upset loss against Virginia. They get a much-needed bye week and rest up as they take on their in-state rival, Miami, and maybe pull off another surprise this season.
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns, once pegged as the favorites to win it all this season, have slowly been finding themselves back on their feet after that stinging loss to Ohio State during Week 0. Arch Manning and crew get some much-needed rest this time, and maybe get their acts together after their early-season disappointments as they prepare to take on the struggling Florida Gators.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders have one of their best starts of the season so far, still being undefeated after Week 4. They dominated Utah and after their break, they will next travel to Houston to take on the Cougars in a battle between Texas giants.
Michigan Wolverines
Despite the NCAA sanctions, the Michigan Wolverines have clung on and are proving to be resilient as they went up two places after Week 4 to being the No. 19 overall. The Big Ten squad will be taking a break this week after their thriller of a win against Nebraska and will next travel to Wisconsin, which is also getting its own bye week.
Other Notable Teams With A Bye In Week 5
It is not just the big names that are getting byes for Week 5, as other teams get to take a break, including Clemson, which has had its worst start in decades.
