College Football Betting: Michigan Closes Gap on Georgia as National Champion Favorite

The Michigan Wolverines have closed the gap on the Georgia Bulldogs in the latest college football betting odds to crown a National Champion.

The Georgia Bulldogs seem hellbent on a three-peat as National Champions. However, after taking care of business in their first real test in Week 3, Georgia has a not-so-comfortable advantage over a handful of teams.

The latest college football betting odds place the Michigan Wolverines just below UGA to win the College Football Playoff.

College Football Betting: Michigan Wolverines Inch Closer to Georgia

Georgia handled business against South Carolina. It wasn’t pretty, but ‘good teams win’ games they’re supposed to win. But as the rest of that expression goes, ‘great teams cover,’ and cover, the Bulldogs did not.

As such, Georgia’s firm grasp as the betting favorite to win their third consecutive National Championship has loosened. Despite struggling offensively against Bowling Green, Michigan has climbed into a firm second behind the ‘Dawgs.

Led by QB J.J. McCarthy, the Wolverines handled their business against the Falcons from the MAC, 31-6. It wasn’t pretty on offense despite 31 points, but the defense for the Wolverines put forth a display of excellence and strength at every level.

Michigan is now just +400 to win the National Championship, compared to Georgia’s +245.

The schedule gods were kind to Michigan in 2023. Starting their season with four consecutive home games that included ECU, UNLV, and Bowling Green, the Michigan defense has allowed a grand total of 16 points in three games.

It doesn’t get much more difficult either for Wolverine fans. The road ahead includes home games against Rutgers and Indiana, as well as road trips to Nebraska and Minnesota before their annual rivalry game against Michigan State in East Lansing. Michigan should absolutely be a heavy favorite in each of these contests.

You better believe the odds will only trend more in favor of the Wolverines if they dominantly handle their business over that stretch, so get in while the getting’s good.

The month of November will be a different story for Michigan as they travel to State College for a highly-anticipated game against Penn State and host their archrival Ohio State Buckeyes to close out the regular season on Thanksgiving weekend.

For Georgia, they take on their last non-conference foe in UAB in Week 4 before a road trip to Auburn. Marquee matchups for Georgia also start later, however, as they’ll play their annual neutral site (we’re always going to call it the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, btw) matchup against Florida before hosting Ole Miss and traveling to Knoxville to face Tennessee in a span of four weeks.

Even if the Bulldogs drop one of those outings, they would still heavily factor into the National Championship picture from the SEC and as potential SEC Champion favorites nevertheless.

Colorado Buffaloes’ Latest College Football Betting Odds

Other odds are favorable for some of the country’s hottest teams as well.

Texas has seen a jump into the third spot of the latest college football betting odds to crown a national champion. That places them ahead of Ohio State, Florida State, and Ohio State.

The Pac-12 is represented, but per their usual standards of defeating themselves out of a Playoff berth inside conference play, no one besides USC ranks more than a +3000 longshot to win the National Championship.

Washington, Oregon, and Oregon State all find themselves above the talk of the town Colorado Buffaloes.

Currently sitting at +20000 as your best bet to win the National Championship, the Buffs were exposed against in-state rival Colorado State and entered Week 4’s matchup against Oregon as three-touchdown underdogs.

As much of a draw as Colorado is right now for media attention, they’ll have to greatly improve on the field before they draw real interest in the betting market for the ultimate prize.
