College Football AP Poll Top 25 Ballot: Insider Snubs Auburn for Big 12 Program as Tigers Face Controversial Defeat vs Oklahoma

Every week, the college football AP poll comes out on Sunday afternoon, revealing the Top 25 teams in the nation. While it is not a perfect list, it gives an idea of who the top analysts and media members believe are the best teams in the nation. While the official list does not come out until Sunday afternoon, some voters reveal their ballots earlier. On3’s Brett McMurphy is one of those people, revealing his ballot on Sunday morning each week.

Notably, this week the Auburn Tigers were not in McMurphy’s top 25. After a 24-17 loss to No. 11-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday, the No. 22-ranked Auburn Tigers are not in McMurphy’s top 25 teams in the nation. Conversely, for pulling off the win over Auburn, the Oklahoma Sooners landed at the No. 8 slot on his list.

While ranking behind Oklahoma was not a surprise, it was a bit of a shock to see that Auburn was left off his list completely. In the Tigers’ place, McMurphy had a couple of Big 12 teams near the bottom of his top 25. He had TCu at No. 24 and Utah at No. 25. Utah narrowly kept its spot on the list after losing 34-10 to No. 17-ranked Texas Tech. Conversely, TCU earned its spot after a 35-24 win over SMU.

Only One Team With a Loss Is in Brett McMurphy’s AP Poll Top 25 for Week 4

Brett McMurphy is rarely hesitant to make bold rankings. His rankings often vary significantly from the official AP Top 25 Poll. However, his top 10 is not too controversial. His top nine all feature undefeated squads, whether they have three or four wins. The only team in the top 10 with a loss is Texas, which he has in the No. 10 slot. The Longhorns’ only loss of the season came to Ohio State in Week 1.

Week 5 could be a week when things start to shift in the top 10, as there are a few key ranked matchups. Notably, No. 2-ranked Penn State will face No. 6-ranked Oregon, No. 5-ranked Georgia plays No. 14-ranked Alabama, and No. 3-ranked LSU plays No. 13-ranked Ole Miss.
