Complete Breakdown of All Gameplay Changes in the Latest College Football 26 Patch
Here is a look at the gameplay changes in the College Football 26 update on Aug. 6.
Coverage
There were several coverage changes in the update on Wednesday. Hard Flats Behavior was changed as defenders and will now stay closer to the line and recognize swing routes as threats in the flat. There were also adjustments to Cover 2, 3, 4, and 6.
In Cover 2 Tampa, the middle defender now gets deeper, maintaining better leverage position against deep ball threat. There were also logic improvements to Cover 2 match for defenders guarding inside and vertical routes.
In Cover 3 Match, EA made logic improvements for defenders when reacting to slot wide receivers.
Cover 4 also had some updates, as in Quarters, corners and safeties now should pick up the appropriate vertical threat. In Palms and Cover 6, corners will no longer press by default on the trips side. This should reduce the chances of one-play TDs.
Blocking
There were also several gameplay updates to how blocking works. Before the play, an issue was resolved where QB animations sometimes prevented players from making adjustments. Additionally, the protection menu should now close automatically after making an adjustment. EA also fixed some display issues with pass block lines.
Blocking logic has been an issue in the first month of College Football 26, but EA made some adjustments on Wednesday. There is now improved recognition of stunts and loops across base protections. Basic protections are also now less effective against stunts, incentivizing players to try out these risky plays even more.
Pocket behavior has been fixed to make defenders more intelligent. Notably, the likelihood of blockers staying in unnecessary double teams has decreased. EA also reduced the frequency of illegal man-downfield penalties, which were becoming frustrating to players.
One of the most important fixes came with general blocking animations. EA fixed an issue where many animations caused players to fail to match engagements, sometimes even resulting in players getting stuck in odd positions.
EA also made various minor gameplay updates and bug fixes to run blocking and run fits.
