Jazz Chisholm Jr.: From the Bahamas to MLB Stardom

Unlike many other MLB players, Chisholm did not play college baseball. After high school, he went back to the Bahamas to train at a sports academy. He signed a $200,000 international free-agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks in July 2015.

Chisholm made his professional debut with the Missoula Osprey in 2016 when he batted .281 with nine home runs and 13 stolen bases. He moved through the Diamondbacks’ minor league system, playing for teams such as the Kane County Cougars and the Visalia Rawhide.

In July 2019, Chisholm was traded to the Miami Marlins in exchange for pitcher Zac Gallen. He made an immediate impact, earning a spot on the Marlins’ 40-man roster and making his MLB debut on Sept. 1, 2020.

Chisholm’s MLB career took off in 2021 when he was named the Marlins’ starting second baseman. Throughout 124 games, he hit 18 home runs, collected 53 RBIs, and stole 23 bases. He soon gained popularity among fans thanks to his dynamic play and bright personality.

The New York Yankees signed Chisholm from the Marlins before the 2024 trade deadline. The Marlins secured catcher Agustin Ramirez and two other prospects in exchange. Chisholm’s versatility and quickness are anticipated to improve the Yankees lineup.

As of April 2025, Chisholm is expected to have a huge impact on the Yankees. His extraordinary journey from the Bahamas to Major League Baseball inspires aspiring athletes globally.
