Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has emerged as one biggest stars in Major League Baseball in recent years. On Wednesday, the young star was announced as the latest winner of the National League Cy Young Award. The award is given to the best pitcher in the National League. It was Skenes’ first time winning the award.
Skenes is dating another athlete, former LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne. Both members of the couple were at one time at the top of their field. While Dunne is no longer a gymnast, she is still an avid supporter of her boyfriend.
On Thursday, Dunne posted a photo on Instagram, celebrating Skenes’ Cy Young win.
“Dating a Cy Young winner. That’s it. That’s the post,” Olivia Dunne wrote.

Paul Skenes Speaks About Winning the Cy Young Award
Winning the Cy Young Award is something most pitchers never do. Even star players will sometimes play their entire career with the hopes of winning it once. Paul Skenes did it in his second professional season. It puts him on a trajectory to potentially be an all-time great. After winning the award, Skenes spoke about his baseball journey.
“As I look back on my path in baseball up to this point, I got recruited to college as a catcher,” Paul Skenes said. “Kept growing and started pitching and got better on the mound. Never thought I would end up here. Never thought I would be in the Major Leagues, much less winning a Cy Young.
“So it doesn’t always work out how you think it’s going to. But if you stay the course, you surround yourself with good people, you work hard, you’re going to do exactly what you’re supposed to do, whatever that looks like.”
Skenes was not the only player to win the Cy Young award. The American League winner was Detroit’s Tarik Skubal. It was his second year in a row winning the award.
With Skenes winning the Cy Young, he becomes the third pitcher to win the Rookie of the Year award and Cy Young in back-to-back years (Fernando Valenzuela and Dwight Gooden).
