Former LSU Tigers gymnastics star Olivia Dunne has shown support for her boyfriend, Paul Skenes, for an accomplishment that cements him in the league’s history. On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Skenes was named as the 2025 Cy Young Awardee for the National League after his efforts in what was only his second stint of professional baseball in the 2025 campaign.
Leading up to the much-anticipated announcement, Dunne took to her Instagram account to hype Skenes up as he was named a finalist for the annual award, bestowed upon the best pitchers in the MLB in a particular year. Dunne showed support for her boyfriend by reposting the MLB’s post, which features some of the finalists for the award, including Skenes in the middle, while including a pair of eyes emoji.
Ultimately, Skenes won the award over the likes of Los Angeles Dodgers star Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who came off the 2025 MLB championship berth with his team, as they defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, 4-3, and Philadelphia Phillies standout Cristopher Sanchez. Skenes is the fifth-youngest recipient of the Cy Young award, as he is just 23 and a sophomore in the league.
Skenes is padding his individual success after a subpar 2025 campaign with manager Don Kelly’s Pirates. Pittsburgh finished with an overall record of 71-91, placing them as the fifth seed in the NL Central, but were unable to crack postseason play. Skenes enters his third year next season with the hopes of making it into the playoffs for the first time. Alternatively, Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal was named as the winner in the American League.

Olivia Dunne Also Reposted The MLB’s Instagram Post About Paul Skenes’ Winning Cy Young Award
Along with several posts to her Instagram stories, Olivia Dunne reposted the official MLB Instagram page’s upload, which shows Skenes’ family reacting to the young standout’s accomplishment.
Dunne included a two-word reaction as she was seen celebrating with Skenes and his close ones in the video.
To add to the celebrations, Skenes was voted to win the award unanimously as he is the first NL pitcher to do so since Miami Marlins’ Sandy Alcantara in 2022.
