The Louisiana State University baseball team is almost a lock to make the 2025 SEC Tournament. It couldn’t be any other way with the Tigers, one of the most prestigious programs in NCAA baseball.
As you might imagine, Jay Johnson’s team has much more ambitious aspirations than just qualifying. Winning the regular season to have a much quicker path to winning the SEC Championship title, and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament are among their most immediate goals.
While finishing the regular season in first place is not entirely in their hands, one of the three remaining series will be crucial to their quest.

The 3-Game Set That Could Determine LSU’s Postseason Fate
LSU has just three three-game series left to finish the season within the SEC. They round out their schedule with a game vs. Grambling State.
Two of their remaining conference series are against teams far from the top of the standings. They are Texas A&M (currently ranked 13th), which they will play May 3-4 (doubleheader on the first day), and South Carolina (currently ranked 15th), which they will play May 15-17.
The real threat to their aspirations goes by the name of the Arkansas Razorback, who will face the Tigers May 9-11 at Alex Box Stadium, home of the former.
Arkansas currently sits second in the SEC with a 16-7 record (39-9 overall). They are three games behind the conference leaders, the Texas Longhorns (19-4). This puts them in direct competition with LSU to advance as far as possible in the SEC standings. The Tigers currently sit in third place with a 14-7 record.
For this reason, the upcoming matchup between these two teams will be crucial. Thus, the Tigers and Hogs are expected to bring out the best in their pitching staff.
LSU’s rotation for the weekend might include Kade Anderson (6-1, 3.76 ERA), Anthony Eyanson (6-2, 3.49 ERA), and Chase Shores (5-2, 5.53 ERA).
They could also use William Schmidt as a starter. He has a 7-0 record (4.11 ERA), although he has only started 6 of the 14 games he has pitched.
On the Arkansas side, the order could include Zach Root (6-3, 3.95 ERA), Landon Beidelschies (4-0, 4.27 ERA), and Gabe Gaeckle (4-1, 5.56 ERA). A possible fourth option is Ben Bybee, who has three wins and no losses (3.58 ERA), although he has only started 3 of the 14 games he has pitched.
