Colin Cowherd Drops Bombshell On Nick Saban’s Return To Coaching, Compares Potential Impact To Luka Doncic’s Lakers Move

The year 2025 has been full of surprises in the world of football, from 8x Super Bowl champ Bill Belichick coming back to coach in college football at the University of North Carolina to the Dallas Mavericks trading Luca Doncic to the Lakers.

Nick Saban is one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. His accomplishments as a head coach are as impressive as they get, with 7 national championship titles and 9 SEC championship wins under his belt. He is one of the most influential names in the world of college football.

Even after retiring early in 2024, Saban’s opinions are heard and respected, even by President Donald Trump. The two discussed putting some regulations for NIL in place to protect the integrity of the sport.

Many analysts concur that the ex Alabama head coach might return from his retirement. Colin Cowherd believes he will return to coaching at the highest level, which is the NFL.

During his recent analysis on his YouTube channel, Cowherd said:

“A lot of old guys don’t age well. Saban does, I’m telling you, this is my summer prediction. Belichick to North Carolina that was nuts too. Mavericks trading Luca to a rival Lakers in the West, that sounded nuts too. This is my oldest prediction of the summer. You gotta have one. And this is mine, there are seven openings annually in this league. And by the way, just say it out loud. Saying it out loud, Saban to the Cowboys. Jerry loves his team being talked about on TV. You can say what you want about Jerry, but a lot of times there’s been a criticism. He cares more about the marketing than the actual Super Bowl winning. He’s got those, so I think it’s in play.” (time stamp 5:03)

Nick Saban Opens Up About Reasons Behind Retirement Decision

Nick Saban led the Crimson Tide crew for 17 years before hanging up his boots and announcing his decision to retire, right after the team lost the national championship game against Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan in the 2023 college football season.

The 7x national champ attributed the massively evolving landscape of college football in terms of NIL and the transfer portal to be the key reasons in his decision.

He also mentioned he was very disappointed by the way some players acted after the loss, which is not what he encouraged in the program.
