Colin Cowherd Gets Brutally Honest On Lane Kiffin’s Chances of Landing “Political” LSU Job Following Jeff Landry’s Public Remarks

Speaking on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”, Cowherd discussed potential high-profile jobs as far as college football is concerned. He also shared that LSU and Florida are both great jobs, but they come with different pressure and different boosters.

However, Cowherd didn’t mince his words about why Lane Kiffin, the Ole Miss head coach, should steer away from taking the high-profile LSU job, his reasoning being that LSU has less to do with football and everything to do with politics.

“I heard that governor of Louisiana yesterday. I’m like, ‘No, thank you”, Cowherd stated (4:05).

“And LSU may be the best job in the country, but the governor’s now telling, I mean, it’s now literally a political football job. Literally, I wouldn’t take it. Nope. Wouldn’t take it”, he remarked (4:15).

Cowherd also stated that Ole Miss, with the kind of season they’ve had so far, would be willing to pay Kiffin whatever it takes for him to stay and for Kiffin, staying at Ole Miss for some monetary increment is not worth the pressure of a high-profile job.

“Ole Miss is now going to pay (Lane Kiffin) whatever he wants. So, you tell me if in your current job where you have reign, control, and are respected, is it better making 11, 12% less than the high pressure job?”, Cowherd Further elaborated

The Ole Miss head coach has built something as the program is 7-1, leading and currently ranked seventh in the country. But as LSU scrambles to replace Brian Kelly after his expensive flameout, Kiffin’s name keeps popping up as a potential savior for the Tigers.

LSU AD Scott Woodward Fired Days After Kelly’s Dismissal

At LSU, Brian Kelly was recently fired after a disappointing 5-3 start this season and an overall record seen as underperforming for the program.

LSU is dealing with the fallout from Kelly’s buyout, which is close to $54 million, and the Louisiana governor, Jeff Landry, has been vocal in blocking LSU’s athletic director, Scott Woodward, from selecting the next football coach. Woodward was also subsequently fired, just four days after he announced Kelly’s dismissal.

Landry also wants a merit-based contract for the new hire without massive buyouts and has raised concerns about taxpayer burdens related to the buyout costs.
