The 2025 season hasn’t been kind to Bill Belichick, who is in his first year as a coach at the collegiate level. Signed by the North Carolina Tar Heels with the expectation to change the program, Belichick has had a miserable run so far.
The Tar Heels are 2-3 this season, and to make matters worse, Belichick’s personal life has gotten him more attention than his coaching. Many believe that the legendary coach is slowly destroying his once-revered legacy.
Amid Belichick’s failure, Colin Cowherd recently proposed an idea that can help Belichick get back in the big league. On an episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast, he said that Belichick could join the $13 billion worth franchise, the Dallas Cowboys.
“If I said to you, Brian Schottenheimer lasts a year,” Cowherd said. “Who could be hired? Bill Belichick takes over the Dallas Cowboys. College is a disaster. He doesn’t fit. He doesn’t have a college sensibility. Belichick, by the way, is not good with personnel.”

The Cowboys are in a similar position to the Tar Heels. They also have a new coach, Brian Schottenheimer, who took over head coaching duties in 2025. They are also 2-3 this season, showing flashes of brilliance but constantly struggling to make an impact.
As per Cowherd, Belichick isn’t the right fit for college football. He has no prior coaching experience and is struggling to develop players. Whereas in the NFL, he could potentially have a bigger impact, and that could also help him preserve his legacy.
As for Schottenheimer’s tenure, he is facing what every coach with a losing record goes through. Schottenheimer is being scrutinized as the pressure continues to pile on. Whether Cowherd’s suggestion becomes a reality or not, it’s not an outrageous comment to make.

Bill Belichick’s Personal Life is Allegedly Damaging His Legacy
For decades, Belichick was seen as one of the most disciplined coaches in football. Known for his player management and effective strategies, Belichick built a legacy that was supposed to stand the test of time.
Now, in his first year of coaching at the collegiate level, we’re witnessing it all being destroyed. And it has very little to do with his coaching abilities. If we take out his personal life from the equation, most people would give him some breathing space, as it’s his first run in college football.
Recently, Blake Ruffino of The Ruffino & Joe Show blasted Belichick for turning the Tar Heels program into a circus while destroying his legacy. Ruffino said that his intimate moments with his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, are doing more damage than he realizes.
“He’s made this an outright circus in the sense of she’s on the sidelines, giving him kisses, long-form kisses before a football game,” Ruffino said. “And it’s not like she’s standing behind a rope and he goes and greets her…It’s not that. She’s walking the sidelines.”
Ruffino isn’t the only one who blames Belichick’s personal life for his current situation. Jason Whitlock and many others also share the same sentiment.
