‘Thank God He Not a GM’ – Colin Cowherd Dragged for Suggesting Steelers Trade T.J. Watt, George Pickens, and Picks for Shedeur Sanders

Colin Cowherd is once again in hot water with NFL fans, as an old take about Shedeur Sanders has resurfaced and gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

The Fox Sports host is being widely mocked for suggesting the Pittsburgh Steelers should trade T.J. Watt, George Pickens, and two first‑round picks to acquire quarterback Shedeur Sanders—a take fans are saying, “Thank God he’s not a GM.”

Colin Cowherd Faces Fan Backlash as Old Shedeur Sanders Trade Take Goes Viral Again

“If you think he’s a starting QB, I would trade T.J. Watt, George Pickens, two first‑rounders, and go get Shedeur Sanders,” Cowherd boldly claimed in the now‑viral clip.

The quote, which aired months ago, reemerged online after Sanders shockingly slipped to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft before being selected by the Cleveland Browns at No. 144.

Social media quickly exploded in response. Steelers fans and neutral observers alike dragged Cowherd across platforms such as X and Reddit.

“Thank God he’s not a GM,” one user wrote. Another added, “Sometimes Colin hits big, and sometimes he misses massively like in this clip. He’s still worth listening to, tho, imo.”

The backlash stems from the magnitude of Cowherd’s proposal. T.J. Watt is a former Defensive Player of the Year, and George Pickens is one of the league’s most electric young wideouts.

Tossing in two first‑round picks for a quarterback who wasn’t drafted in the top 100 struck many as outlandish.

The renewed criticism arrives amid discussions about why Sanders fell so far. The son of NFL legend Deion Sanders posted stellar 2024 numbers at Colorado—4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions—while leading the Buffaloes to a surprise bowl appearance.

Yet despite early first‑round projections, NFL teams repeatedly passed on Sanders until the Browns finally pulled the trigger in Round 5, even after selecting Dillon Gabriel earlier in the draft.

Cowherd has defended his position by pointing out that NFL teams often get quarterback evaluations wrong—a point underscored by the rise of QBs such as Brock Purdy and Dak Prescott.

“If he was truly elite, 32 teams wouldn’t have passed on him that many times,” Cowherd conceded in a recent segment.

Still, even if Cowherd’s critique of talent evaluation holds water, fans believe trading away Watt, Pickens and two high‑value picks for an unproven rookie is simply outrageous.
