“Difference Between Struggling and Losing Confidence”: Colin Cowherd Delivers Harsh Reality Check on Why Arch Manning Is Facing a Tough Start at Texas

Before the start of the season, Texas quarterback Arch Manning was viewed as a Heisman Trophy contender and one of the top QBs in the nation. However, he has struggled to start the year and has many people doubting whether he can live up to the hype.

On Thursday, Colin Cowherd spoke to former head coach Urban Meyer on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” about this situation. He spoke about how he is worried that Manning could lose confidence if he struggles for much longer.

“Well, you’ve had a lot of different quarterbacks in your career in college and a lot of different personalities, from Chris Leak to Tim Tebow. You even had Joe Burrow as a backup at one point. Arch Manning is different though,” Colin Cowherd said (Timestamp 1:10). “None of your quarterbacks grew up with American royalty. The Manning family is American football royalty in this country. And he’s struggling.

“I said the other day that I think he needs it. I think all these quarterbacks need to get beat up a little bit because he grew up with a pretty cool life. But I do look at the mechanics and I think to myself, there’s a difference between struggling and losing confidence. Did you ever have a quarterback that you just thought, “Man, he’s lost his fastball upstairs?” Because I don’t think it’s a lack of talent, but when you lose your mechanics, you’re second-guessing yourself.”

Urban Meyer then responded, speaking about his experiences coaching various quarterbacks over the years. He said he was lucky that he did not have that issue with many quarterbacks. However, he did mention that Chris Leak lost some confidence in his first year but got it back afterward.

Joel Klatt Thinks Arch Manning Looks Uncomfortable

Colin Cowherd is not the only person who is worried about Arch Manning. Analyst Joel Klatt also spoke this week about the issues he has noticed with Manning. He believes that he looks uncomfortable throwing the ball, noting that he has only completed 55% passes, and that number goes down to 46% on passes that cross the line of scrimmage.

Manning will have another opportunity to perform on Saturday against Sam Houston. Despite his weak play, Manning has still been able to help the Longhorns win their past two games. However, after this week’s matchup, the team will start to face some tougher competition.
