Deion Sanders did not hold back when asked about his son’s recent release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Prime was speaking from a father’s experience but was confident in his way of parenting.
“We’re praying that he gets another opportunity to go with a team. But if he doesn’t, the plans have already been put forward to what he’s going to do next,” Sanders explained in a news conference in Boulder on Aug. 26.
The Colorado head coach highlighted his readiness as a father in dealing with life’s obstacles.
“Oh, most definitely. He’s son, I’m proud of my kids, all of them. And I prepared my kids for any and everything that could possibly happen in life and in sports,” Sanders added.
The Hall of Famer noted that preparing kids for disappointment is a key element in the parenting process, along with celebrating their accomplishments.
“This is part of fathering, this part of parenting, this part of having a relationship,” he continued.

The proud father explained that Shilo is still in a good place mentally and physically even with his professional debacle with Tampa Bay. Sanders described Shilo as a young man who is ready for the next step in all aspects.
Shilo was waived off after his ejection from a preseason game for throwing a punch at Zach Davidson of the Buffalo Bills, raising questions about his NFL future. Shilo’s release from the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster was an immediate result of being ejected from the game.

Disciplinary Concerns Raise Questions About Shilo Sanders’ NFL Readiness
Shilo Sanders had a great college career at Colorado, leading the team in tackles (70) in 2023. He finished third in total tackles (67) in 2024 despite dealing with a number of injuries prior to his playing time.
The fact that Shilo had enough college potential to garner interest from the Buccaneers is reason enough to know his skill level. Making the team in any capacity provides some recognition for his hard work and willingness to take his craft seriously.
This disciplinary issue has resulted in people raising concerns about Shilo’s maturity as far as the NFL is concerned. NFL players are expected to behave like professionals during games, and the league typically has no tolerance for players who act out on the field.
Meanwhile, Deion Sanders enters his third season as the head coach at Colorado which adds another complication. Sanders’ new starting quarterback, Kaidon Salter, comes to Colorado from Liberty, where Shedeur Sanders thrived and performed at a level which eventually helped him catapult into the Cleveland Browns’ 53-man roster.
