Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has now coached a college football game for the first time without his sons, Shilo and Shedeur, since taking the coaching job at Boulder. However, his sons have kept in touch and they gave him a stern message ahead of that opening game loss against Georgia Tech.
During his new podcast with Romi Bean called “Coach Prime’s Playbook,” the former Dallas Cowboys superstar opened up on what his sons told him ahead of that game.
“So it was like Shedeur didn’t play well his last album. Shilo got released and they were like, ‘Dad, come on, man. You got to step it up for the Sanders family. You cannot lose. You cannot lose.’ and we lost,” he said. “So, it’s like, “Come on, guys. The Sanders family is taking a beating right now.” But I told them about I’m going to get us back on the right track.” (15:10)
“Okay. One thing we have no doubt about though is that everybody’s going to get back on the right track,” he added.
The loss has been tough on the family, especially after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Shilo ahead of the new season. The Buffaloes offense, while starting strong, could not get through the Georgia Tech defense as it clamped down on them later in the game. The final score was 20-27 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
Liberty transfer quarterback Kaidon Salter played well, but the Georgia Tech defense just forced the Buffaloes to just try and score field goals instead of touchdowns. It was a highly defensive game, though Colorado just struggled more against their opponents than Georgia Tech ever did.

Deion Sanders Planning to Play Freshman QB Julian Lewis on Week 2
Meanwhile, after struggling offensively last week, Deion Sanders has decided to change things up a bit for the Colorado Buffaloes. He announced during a weekly press conference that he plans to play five-star freshman quarterback Julian Lewis. However, he did not reveal when he will insert Lewis into the game.
Sanders infamously flipped Lewis from LSU last season, with him solving the problem of who would replace Shedeur Sanders. He also got Kaidon Salter via the transfer portal, setting up the competition for QB1. Sanders eventually chose Salter, though he seems to be keeping Lewis on hand just in case.
Salter will likely start next game, with Sanders possibly inserting Lewis later.
