After losing key stars like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to the NFL Draft, Colorado head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is once again making headlines in the transfer portal. This time, he’s reeled in a major offensive weapon: former five-star Florida State wide receiver Hykeem Williams.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound wideout, once a top-five WR in the 2023 class, announced his commitment to the Buffaloes on Instagram, signaling another bold move in Sanders’ mission to elevate Colorado football into national contention.

Williams arrived at Florida State with major hype, ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver and a top-30 overall player nationally in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
While his on-field production didn’t quite match the five-star billing during his two seasons in Tallahassee, totaling 21 catches for 267 yards and two touchdowns, he showed flashes of the explosive potential that made him one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.

Now, with two years of eligibility remaining, Williams joins a Colorado program that is not only hungry for success but built around giving dynamic playmakers opportunities in an up-tempo, pass-first system. After throwing for over 4,100 yards and 37 touchdowns last season, the Buffaloes’ offense is primed for Williams to shine.
For Williams, the move to Boulder is about more than a change of scenery, it’s about opportunity. With Colorado coming off a 9-4 season and a bowl game appearance for the first time since 2020, the team is on the rise under Sanders. And with the departure of Travis Hunter, there’s an opening for a high-impact, high-profile receiver to step in and become the go-to guy.
Williams will also benefit from a quarterback competition that includes Liberty transfer Kaidon Slater and elite recruit Julian Lewis, both expected to battle for the starting role. That potential for a productive partnership surely factored into Williams’ decision to head west.
Colorado’s current wide receiver group features talent, but few with the recruiting pedigree or ceiling of Williams.
Outside of Omarion Miller, no one in the unit comes close to matching the national recognition Williams received coming out of high school, where he averaged 19.1 yards per catch at Stranahan High School (FL). His combination of size, athleticism, and route-running ability make him a matchup nightmare for defenses.

Landing Hykeem Williams is another win for Coach Prime and a clear signal that Colorado is not slowing down. Sanders is building a roster full of speed, talent, and big-name recruits ready to make Boulder a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.
With Williams in the fold, the Buffaloes just added another weapon that could change the trajectory of their 2025 season and beyond.
