Sherrone Moore’s disgraceful dismissal from the Michigan Wolverines is the college football story of the week, as it brought an abrupt end to his tenure at Ann Arbor and could land him in prison when everything is said and done.
Now the question is, who will coach the program in 2026? Names like Kenny Dillingham and Kalen DeBoer are coming up in the debate, but according to former Michigan player Taylor Lewan, Michigan should be on the lookout for Penn State’s Matt Campbell.
“If they take longer than January 2nd, Michigan is dangerously close to going through what Penn State has gone through in their coaching process. Matt Campbell is probably the last name on my list, not in any specific order, but I would look to Matt Campbell… Matt Campbell is a guy I would look at how dry that ink is on that contract,” Lewan said.
Former Michigan OL Taylor Lewan says the Wolverines need to move quickly to replace Sherrone Moore because the school “is dangerously close to going through what Penn State has gone through in their coaching process.”

This would be a surprising move, considering the former Iowa State coach took over the Nittany Lions on Dec. 5. One would imagine there would be some legal quandaries with this move, considering his $70.5 million guaranteed contract at Penn State.

Who’s the Favorite for the Michigan Head Coaching Vacancy?
With odds of 4 in 1, Kalen DeBoer down at Alabama is the favorite for the Wolverines’ job right now, according to Yahoo Sports. It would be interesting to see if he would leave the Crimson Tide for Michigan, having just started to feel at home in Tuscaloosa.
LA Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has the second-best odds at 5 in 1. He was the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator between 2022 and 2023 under Jim Harbaugh. Third-best odds are for Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, at 6 in 1.
