UCLA Bruins head coach DeShaun Foster isn’t pulling any punches after finishing up spring practice. In his second year, Foster felt good about his team’s work ethic and camaraderie and was excited about where the Bruins are heading into a crucial 2025 campaign.

Coach Foster Recaps UCLA’s Spring Football Practice
In a post-practice interview, Foster showed little hesitation in assessing the workouts: “These guys were just eager to get out here and try to find ways to better themselves as a team.” Foster’s team-first focus was obvious this spring, and it wasn’t really about ‘wow’ plays, but instead laying the groundwork to begin building something.
Foster believed this year’s spring semester was full of competition and development. “I couldn’t ask for anything more,” Foster said about a group’s willingness to embrace the process and attend each practice with the right mentality. The last spring practice occurred at the Rose Bowl, and Foster thought it capped off a “fun” and productive spring.
The players’ blue, white, and throwback jerseys were just a backdrop for a showcase that was more than a photo opportunity – it resulted from weeks of hard work. “It was just good to come back in here and see those guys in blue and gold,” Foster said as he beamed excitedly about his team’s effort and unity.
Like many programs in the evolving landscape of college football, UCLA has experienced a great deal of roster turnover. Some of the key transfers are I,n, and some of the veterans are out. Although the uncertainty remains, Foster is embracing the confusion.
“Every team in America has had a lot of moving parts… that’s just college football now,” he said. “And, even with a lot of marking changes, I feel really good that we were able to get these guys together: we did a good job on getting these guys to gel and come together.”
Coaching Foster’s confidence in the Bruins is not based on hype—it is based on what he has witnessed in practice. From its competitive tone to its off-field camaraderie, Foster thinks that this team’s emotional and physical components will enable it to compete at an extremely high level.
