“That’s all Cleveland’s doing this year” – Colin Cowherd Speculates Wild Browns QB Strategy, And It Doesn’t Involve Shedeur Sanders As Starting QB

One of the strangest aspects of the Cleveland Browns’ preseason training camp is how the franchise is dealing with its quarterbacks. The Browns have the most crowded quarterback room in the league, with Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and 2025 draftees Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Not to forget, DeShaun Watson is still on the team’s payroll, but he’s on the PUD list and isn’t expected to make any significant contribution this season.

Adding to the confusion, the Browns are prioritizing Dillon Gabriel ahead of every other quarterback in preseason, with him taking most of the training snaps with the first-team offense, even ahead of Joe Flacco. On the other hand, Coach Prime’s son Shedeur Sanders has been the most neglected of the group, not taking any snaps with the first-team offense and mainly playing with the third-team offense.

Speaking on Wednesday on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd”, analyst Colin Cowherd said the Cleveland Browns are aware that they do not have a formidable team for the upcoming season.

“They’re dealing with massive injuries at quarterback. So, there’s absolutely no value in screwing over Shedeur Sanders. He may not be the future, but the perfect scenario actually is he plays kind of well, establishes himself as a backup,” Cowherd said (3:19).

“You move off Kenny Pickett, get a draft pick, probably a fifth or sixth, seventh rounder, and then at the end of the year, because he’s shown himself to be a capable backup, you get another sixth, seventh round pick for Shedeur, and that gives you more picks to get Arch Manning or Drew Allar or the Nussmeier kid at at LSU. That’s all Cleveland’s doing this year. They know they’re not good,” he added.

A glimmer of hope for Shedeur Sanders is that, following hamstring injuries to Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, he will get a chance to be the team’s starter during their preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Friday, August 8.
