Browns GM, Head Coach Encourage QB Shedeur Sanders in Viral NFL Draft Call

Right after the Browns selected Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry had a powerful message for the Colorado quarterback who had slid over 100 picks further than he was predicted to go.

“It doesn’t matter when you’re taken. It matters what you do from this point forward… Prove all the people that passed on you wrong,” they told Sanders. “The lord works in mysterious ways…It’s an opportunity. We’re gonna get to work together.”\

Cleveland Browns Facing Big Decision With Crowded QB Room

The Browns have struggled to find stability at the position for years. Since the team’s reinstatement in 1999, 40 quarterbacks have started for the team. In only three seasons (Tim Couch, 2001; Baker Mayfield, 2019-2020), the team had the same starter every game.

Cleveland enters the 2025 season with five quarterbacks on the roster. Deshaun Watson, the projected starter, has experienced some career setbacks after off-field issues and poor play. Joe Flacco, a veteran journeyman who won a Super Bowl with the Ravens, is back on the roster after a season in Indianapolis with the Colts.

The team also traded for veteran backup and former first-round pick Kenny Pickett earlier this offseason.

In this year’s draft, in addition to Sanders, the Browns also selected Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel.

All in all, the Browns could have the most fascinating position group in all of football this upcoming season. Time will tell whether or not HC Kevin Stefanski can identify the next long-term starter of the franchise over the next eight months. It has long been said that an abundance of options is essentially no option.
