The end of the spring transfer portal window draws closer, and players are beginning to find their next opportunity and next home to showcase their skills. However, former Cincinnati starting wide receiver Tony Johnson is still looking for his next home.
The former Florida Atlantic Owl had 48 catches and 449 yards in 2024 and six touchdowns, which led UC. He was an integral part of UC’s win over UCF, catching a touchdown in the back left corner of the end zone to help seal the win. So, where may this star wide receiver end up?

Kentucky and Florida State Lead the Transfer Portal Battle for Cincinnati WR Tony Johnson
The Bearcats are already looking for other wide receivers out of the transfer portal. They found some help in the likes of Jeff Caldwell, Cyrus Allen, Caleb Goodie, and Noah Jennings over the past year. Seeing the writing on the wall, Johnson departed the program looking to be more involved.

“Kentucky and Florida State are both in the market for a transfer wide receiver this spring,” a source tells On3 Sports. “The Wildcats and Seminoles are currently vying for one of the top available wide receivers in the transfer portal,” he wrote. Spoiler alert: That receiver is Johnson.
The Wildcats, led by Mark Stoops, and the Seminoles are both among the top suitors for Johnson. Stoops is trying his best to reshape an offense that had numerous flaws in the 2024-25 season. Johnson would be a huge addition for Kentucky if they can close the deal.
The Seminoles are coming off a downright awful 2024-25 season. To make matters worse, they were last in the ACC in passing yards. Their top pass catchers last season were all seniors, so to say the Seminoles are looking to reshape their offense would be a massive understatement.
Johnson, who already hails from the state of Florida could be an easy pick-up for the Seminoles should he choose to try and bring back the Florida State offense to its former glory. As for Kentucky, Johnson could have a big impact there next season too.

Despite multiple programs still being in the running, On3’s Pete Nakos reports that the Seminoles and Wildcats seem to have the lead. While we don’t know where he’ll end up, we do know that he’s one of the top receivers in the transfer portal and is expected to have a big impact wherever he ends up.
