Tulane enters a new era with Willie Fritz off to Houston, and one of his star wide receivers will find a new home as well. Chris Brazzell put together a big season for the Green Wave, and the Texas native looks to step his game up elsewhere. We look at five landing spots for him in the future.
Chris Brazzell Landing Spots
Houston
The first easy spot to see the 6’4″ receiver land is with Fritz at his new gig. He’s familiar with the system that Fritz wants to run, and he’ll join a program that can get more talent on campus. Houston’s pass catchers could be extremely exciting next year already, but adding Brazzell makes them even better.
At the time of publishing, Matthew Golden, Samuel Brown, and Joseph Manjack IV all plan on returning next year. Throw in the big-body Brazzell, and quarterback Donovan Smith could have the best year of his career.
Texas
With Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell most likely off to the NFL after this year, someone needs to take their place. Mitchell was a clutch player for the Longhorns this year, making a number of big-time catches at key moments. So, replacing him becomes imperative to their success late in games next year.

Brazzell seemed to do the same for Tulane this year. When the Green Wave were facing an important third or fourth down, it was Brazzell coming through for them. His route running put him in great positions to make plays, and that part of his game is what will help him in the SEC next year.
Mississippi State
Jeff Lebby’s looking to restore the air attack for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and adding Brazzell would be a great start. Lebby must rebuild and retool the roster to fit his scheme, and the transfer portal gives him a number of options to make that happen. Brazzell should be high on that list.
If you watched Lebby at Oklahoma and UCF, then you can see the potential for Brazzell to be great in this system. A big, athletic receiver who can make explosive plays fits well, and getting the right quarterback to throw him the ball makes this fit even better.
Washington
Kalen DeBoer might have to replace his top three receivers from this year, thanks to the NFL Draft. Luckily for him, a guy like Brazzell can limit the damage done by those departures. He’d be more similar to what the Huskies had in Rome Odunze, giving the offense a true WR1.
DeBoer’s system is a great fit for Brazzell. His history of producing elite talent at the position makes this destination appealing, even with Michael Penix Jr. departing at quarterback. The Huskies staff will be looking in the portal for other talent too, something they can pitch to the Tulane star receiver as well.
Baylor
Jake Spavital taking over as offensive coordinator infuses life into Dave Aranda’s program and also makes this offense more attractive to potential transfers. Chris Brazzell would give the Bears offense a big receiver who would thrive in the explosive system.
Baylor already has a couple of speedy options at the position, and Brazzell would give them the size they need. Finding a quarterback is also high on their priority list, but Spavital and the Bears staff should work quickly to resolve that.
Spavital did great work at Cal in 2023, and the feeling in the Baylor program is that he could help the Bears even more. Getting a transfer of Brazzel’s caliber would be a great way to start. In the new Big 12, the Baylor fanbase expects Aranda to compete for titles. He started that journey with Spavital, and upgrading the talent on offense should help, too.
