‘Chiseled Out of Granite’ – Omarion Hampton’s Viral Handshake Moment with Jim Harbaugh Gets An Explanation

Omarion Hampton hasn’t played a single down for the Los Angeles Chargers, but he’s already making waves across the NFL landscape,  and it’s all thanks to a single handshake. The No. 22 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft went viral after a photo surfaced of him shaking hands with Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

The image instantly caught the attention of fans and media alike, sparking buzz not for its sentimental value, but because of just how massive Hampton appeared standing next to the former quarterback.

Jim Harbaugh Reacts to Viral Photo of Omarion Hampton’s Jacked Physique

In a recent interview, Harbaugh cleared the air on what many thought might be a photoshopped image. “That’s a real photograph,” he confirmed. “He’s swole. His 224 is chiseled out of granite.”

Harbaugh, who stands over six feet himself, acknowledged the deceptive nature of the photo’s angle but made it clear, the kid’s the real deal. “I’m probably a little taller,” Harbaugh added. “But when you see Omarion, it’s obvious, the guy is built different.”

The viral photo was part of a collection posted by Chargers media member Mia Jones, documenting Hampton’s first official day with the team. The towering former UNC running back dwarfs Harbaugh outside the team’s facility. Almost immediately, social media lit up with reactions, comparisons, and memes. Some joked that Harbaugh looked like a ball boy next to Hampton. Others called the incoming rookie “a Marvel superhero in cleats.”

Beyond the buzz, Harbaugh was clearly thrilled to have Hampton join the Chargers roster. “He’s our guy,” Harbaugh said. “You love to see a player who not only looks the part but plays it too.”

Hampton, a two-time Doak Walker Award finalist and All-American, was a standout at North Carolina. Known for his bruising runs, elite vision, and unmatched work ethic, he enters the NFL with high expectations. Standing six feet tall and weighing in at around 224 pounds, Hampton brings a physical presence to the Chargers’ backfield that could shift the offensive dynamic immediately.

Although the viral moment will live online for a long time, Harbaugh made sure to redirect focus to what matters most. “As a coach, you love to see guys who are physically impressive. But even more, you want players who are hungry, humble, and ready to work. Omarion is all of that.”
