Chandler Morris Injury Update: Is Virginia Cavaliers’s QB Playing Today vs. Duke?

Virginia Cavaliers starting quarterback Chandler Morris has been a stable force for his team this season. However, last week in a 16-9 loss to Wake Forest, he exited the game in the second quarter after absorbing a hit to the head. He went to the locker room and did not return to the game. Backup Daniel Kaelin replaced him.

While Kaelin is an adept QB, Morris is the team’s preferred option. As a result, the team has been hoping he would get through concussion protocol this week. While it often takes more than a week for a player to clear concussion protocol, Morris was upgraded to probable on Friday. He then passed concussion protocol, and it was reported on Saturday morning by insider Pete Nakos that Morris will play against Duke.

“Virginia QB Chandler Morris is expected to play vs. Duke, barring a setback, sources tell On3 Sports. He’s passed concussion protocol after exiting the Wake Forest game last week.”

Virginia Head Coach Tony Elliott Evaluated QB Daniel Kaelin’s Performance After Chandler Morris’s Departure

With Chandler Morris out for the second half of the game against Wake Forest, Daniel Kaelin entered the game but was not able to help the Cavaliers win the game. The team lost as Kaelin completed 18 of 28 passing attempts for 145 yards. Head coach Tony Elliott spoke about Kaelin’s performance after the game.

“I thought he had probably two plays where he probably wants back – other than that, he did his job,” Elliott said. “I think we put him in a tough spot down there on the goal line. He’ll learn.

“We had a shot to go win it, so he did what he needed to do to get us in those positions – considering the circumstances. … Thought he made some good throws. I thought he got the ball to the guys he was supposed to get the ball to, converted some first downs, but the three turnovers, I think, is ultimately what got us.”

With Morris back in the lineup, the No. 19-ranked Virginia Cavaliers will look to bounce back against the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
