As much as we’d love to see our favorite college football players turn pro, most will move on to careers outside of football. Washington linebacker Drew Fowler will be joining this list and he announced his exit from college football in the most intriguing way.
Fowler, besides being amazing at football, has an incredible personality. Amid the competitive pressure of college football, which is often marked by nasty fallingouts and feuds, Fowler chose a more simple and virtuous path.
The linebacker turned down scholarship opportunities from Louisville, UCLA, and other programs, opting instead to stay home and play for the Washington Huskies. Now, as he prepares to leave college football, Fowler is focused on the next phase of his life.

Fowler is no doubt a talented player, he’s played with the Huskies for six seasons, arriving in 2019 and ending his time with them in 2024. Fowler played 49 games across his career, tallying 42 tackles in that time, playing under four head coaches: Chris Petersen, Jimmy Lake, Kalen DeBoer, and Jedd Fisch.
However, his performance during his time in college football doesn’t exactly guarantee him a place in the NFL, and it seems no one is more aware of that than Fowler himself. With this in mind, Fowler decided to use his goodbye post to secure more opportunities for himself in the future.
“I’m officially declaring for the job market. In other words, I need a job,” Fowler wrote in his announcement. “If you or anybody you know has an employment opportunity, I am your guy. Gritty, hardworking, sneaky athletic, locker room guy, will bring my lunch pail to work. My LinkedIn is updated, and I am #OpenToWork.”
CFB Fans React to Fowler’s Goodbye Post With Support, Humor
Fowler’s approach caught fans by surprise and generated an overwhelmingly positive response. While many of his peers will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Fowler declared for the job market with just as much enthusiasm. It showed a positive mindset, courage, and humor, all admirable qualities that represent the true spirit of the sport of football.
And unsurprisingly, it went viral.
