“Could Have Hurt Defenses”: CFB Insider Details Area To Improve In for Texas Star Arch Manning Ahead of 2025 Season

Before even starting a full season, Arch Manning is projected to be one of the most dynamic players of the current times, at least according to analyst Paul Finebaum.

The Texas Longhorns star has played only two whole games, but is projected to win the Heisman Trophy this year, while also being the No. 1 draft pick, if he decides to declare.

Talking about his skillset, ESPN’s Jordan Reid highlighted a few areas where the Texas quarterback needs to improve, including the way he uses his mobility to the best of his advantage.

Reid opined that Manning sometimes sticks to his ‘primary read’ for more than the required time frame, hoping for a WR to make space and open.

“He has a habit of sticking to his primary read too long,” Reid said. “Too many times last season, he stared down his first read, hoping the receiver would get open. His internal clock in the pocket was inconsistent. During several plays, he could have hurt defenses even more as a running threat instead of hanging in the pocket too long.”

Reid also highlighted Arch Manning’s skills that make him a standout.

“He has picture-perfect mechanics, throws from a strong platform, and seems to always play on balance from the pocket,” he added. “He has the necessary arm strength and confidence to drive the ball into tight windows, but one of the more impressive parts of his film was his success as a downfield thrower.”

HC Steve Sarkisian Opens Up About Arch Manning’s Preparedness Ahead of 2025 Season

After waiting for his turn, sitting on the bench for two years, Arch Manning is finally ready to take the spotlight at Texas as the QB1.

The Longhorns’ star has been showing his moves throughout the training camp, making fans optimistic and excited about the team’s fate in 2025.

Talking about how it is looking for Arch Manning in terms of preparedness, head coach Steve Sarkisian said that while Manning didn’t do anything “catastrophically bad” during a recent scrimmage, he believes the Texas QB can do better.

“That work in progress? He didn’t do anything, like, catastrophically bad, but I just know what he’s capable of,” Sarkisian said about Arch Manning. “And so, we’ve just got to keep tightening the screws to make sure that he’s performing the way he’s capable of performing.”

Arch Manning and Texas will kick off their 2025 season against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 30.
