Clemson athletic director Graham Neff confirmed the 12-year pact, which will span the 2027 to 2038 seasons. The two teams have met eight times before. The most recent matchup came in 2023, when the Tigers came out on top. The year before, the Fighting Irish got the win.

This rivalry has delivered some big moments over the years, so it’s no surprise fans are fired up about the announcement.

When a matchup like this gets locked in, there’s always buzz, and this one’s no different. Both teams are frequent contenders for the College Football Playoff and will now have a marquee matchup on the calendar every year starting in 2027. Fans are loving it.

“Great for the game,” said one fan, expressing how fans feel.

“Anyone else feel a rush of nostalgia? Keep these games on campus and let’s have ourselves a dang rivalry 🐅🍀,” said one more user.

Notre Dame enters the agreement after recent wins in the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl, plus a trip to the CFP national championship game. Both Notre Dame and Clemson made the 12-team CFP in 2024.

Neff shared his excitement, saying, ““Even in just the last decade, matchups between Clemson and Notre Dame have produced incredibly memorable moments and games. We have immense excitement for the creation of the 12-year series between these two major programs.”

He added that Clemson is committed to building a schedule that positions the Tigers for College Football Playoff success.

Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua echoed the enthusiasm.

“It’s been such a great rivalry, and we want to see it happen every year. It’s historically been a great back-and-forth. I think we could see it continue to develop into one of the great rivalries in college football,” Bevacqua said.

“Awesome. They may be sick of hearing they play no one every year. College ball needs this,” said another user, expressing excitement.

Some fans still took issue, though: “Notre Dame can play Clemson for 12 years but can’t play Michigan and Michigan State every year?”

The timing of the deal also ties into the ACC’s shift toward a new revenue model that rewards teams for strong TV ratings.

Based on fan reactions online, it’s clear the excitement isn’t just coming from the teams. College football fans are ready for more unforgettable moments in this high-profile rivalry.
