CFB Analyst Calls Out UNC’s Favorable Schedule in Bill Belichick’s First Season at Chapel Hill

College football insider Josh Pate outlines how Bill Belichick's UNC Tar Heels have one of the easiest schedules in all of college football.

College football analyst Josh Pate believes that the University of North Carolina Tar Heels have one of the easiest schedules in the nation next college football season.

While discussing the upcoming campaign on the popular “Josh Pate’s College Football Show,” Pate highlighted how new head coach Bill Belichick could not have created a better schedule for his team if he had picked the schedule himself.

What Did Josh Pate Say About UNC and Bill Belichick?

Last year, the Tar Heels finished with an overall record of 6-7 and went 3-5 against fellow ACC opponents. They averaged 30.9 points per game, tied for No. 45 in the nation. On the defensive side of the ball, they averaged 28.1 points against per game, a value that ranked No. 89 in the country last year.

Pate made clear that the Tar Heels face one of the easiest schedules in college football next year.

“While everyone’s talking about Bill Belichick taking over at North Carolina, I’m going to be talking about the fact that he just inherited the easiest schedule in the conference, maybe the easiest schedule in the country,” Pate said. “They have one game against teams we rate either tier one, tier two, or tier three.”

“Syracuse plays seven by comparison. They’re both in the same conference. They could not have gift-wrapped Bill Belichick an easier road. If Bill Belichick himself was told, you have to make your schedule, he would have made it harder than this because he would have felt guilty if he made this schedule for himself.”

Who Are UNC’s Opponents Next Season?

Next season, the Tar Heels have home games against the TCU Horned Frogs, the Richmond Spiders, the Clemson Tigers, the Virginia Cavaliers, the Stanford Cardinal, and the Duke Blue Devils.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heels face off on the road against the Charlotte 49ers, the UCF Knights, the California Golden Bears, the Syracuse Orange, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and the NC State Wolfpack.

Though there are some difficult opponents, there are also quite a few matchups in which the Tar Heels should be heavily favored going into them. While anything can happen in college football, there is a clear opportunity for the Tar Heels to make a push for the ACC Championship and the College Football Playoffs in Belichick’s first campaign with the program.
