Head coach Deion Sanders has been actively recruiting for his 2025 Colorado Buffaloes team, as well as the coaches who will lead them alongside him. On Feb. 6, he brought in Marshall Faulk as the program’s new running backs coach.

CFB Analyst on Deion Sanders’ Latest Hire Marshall Faulk
Even while his first taste of pro football was at the Louisiana Superdome selling popcorn as a teenager, he went on to spend 12 full seasons in the NFL. During his time in the league, Faulk made the Pro Bowl seven times, won Offensive Player of the Year three times, and was named the NFL MVP in 2000 with the St. Louis Rams.
His hire has fans and analysts alike excited, including 247Sports reporter Tom Loy who, sat down in conversation with Smoke Dixon on “The Ultimate College Football Show” on Feb. 10.

“I am fired up for this pickup and this addition,” Loy said. “If you’re a recruit out there, there is nobody you can be more excited about when it comes to Marshall Faulk. He’s a special talent. … Tremendous talent on the field, but you can see that he had a potential coaching future down the road for him.
“He is just wired a different way, and he’s a guy that players are gonna start gravitating to whether it is portal, whether it is recruiting. Guys are gonna want to play for Marshall Faulk. … He’s the real deal, and I think he’s gonna really show that and come to light as a recruiter, as a coach.”
Coach Prime also had high praise for Faulk, as relayed by Carl Reed Jr.:
“Adding a Hall of Famer like Marshall Faulk allows our athletes to know unequivocally that we’re trying to prepare them with coaches and leaders who have been where they’re trying to go. They deserve the best, and that’s what we’re giving them.”

True to his words, Colorado’s coaching staff is filled with former NFL players and coaches, such as offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, defensive line coach Damione Lewis, and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston.
Faulk, whose talent in the backfield was undeniable, is now the third person from Boulder who has been in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, joining Coach Prime and graduate assistant Warren Sapp.
