Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb’s reunion at Alabama is a major storyline heading into the 2025 college football season, as the Crimson Tide prepares for a transformative year. With the head coach and offensive coordinator poised to reshape the team’s identity, their reunion is sparking optimism among analysts.
Many believe their combined coaching expertise will bring much-needed stability to Alabama’s offense. Recently, one CFB analyst shared a candid assessment of their dynamic, explaining how Grubb’s philosophy could redefine Alabama’s approach on the field.

Analysts Anticipate Offensive Resurgence for Alabama Under Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb
Ryan Grubb and Kalen DeBoer have a strong history together. They worked side by side at Washington, where they built one of the best offenses in the country. Their success helped lead the Huskies to the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
After that season, DeBoer left Washington to become Alabama’s head coach. Many expected Grubb to join him immediately, but instead, he took a job as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator.
After a challenging season in the NFL, Grubb was dismissed by the Seahawks, and now he’s returning to the college ranks to reunite with DeBoer at Alabama as the offensive coordinator. Their partnership is expected to bring stability and clarity to Alabama’s offense, which struggled with identity issues in 2024.
On Wednesday morning, during the “7 AM hour of Mac & Cube,” a college football analyst shared his thoughts about the duo. He said, “Seeing Kalen and Grubb together talking to them both in the same room is a lot of fun. It’s really cool.” He also added that having a former offensive line coach like Grubb as coordinator could help ground Alabama’s offense.
Then the analyst explained that Alabama’s offensive identity often lacked consistency, noting that while there were moments where the team relied on physicality, it was never a sustained approach.
“It was not, let’s see if we can push these people and lean on them. It would become that for a series or a half or a quarter right, or two series,” he said, “but it was never, we’re going into this game to do this, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It became it over time in certain games.”
He believes Grubb will change that. “I think Grubb will have a better understanding of we can do this,” the analyst added. “We can be this, right? We’re going to get away with this, and that’s how we’re going to go win the game, because that’s his mentality. That’s what it’s always been.”
You can’t convince me otherwise…
…but with the hiring of Ryan Grubb, Kalen DeBoer has put the rest of College Football on notice. In a banner defensive year for the Tide (excluding against the shovel pass), DeBoer made the necessary happen offensively.

Last season, Alabama finished with a 9-4 record, one of its weaker years in recent memory. The offense often felt confused and inconsistent. The analyst expects Grubb’s aggressive play-calling and NFL experience to streamline the offense this time around.

Beyond coaching changes, Alabama’s returning roster is another reason for optimism. The Crimson Tide’s offensive transformation is still unfolding, but analysts remain confident that the DeBoer-Grubb duo will define Alabama’s offense in 2025 and position them as a serious contender for a national title.
