CFB Analyst Expresses Major Doubt on Whether Arch Manning Can Meet His Hype in 2025

Arch Manning’s hype is one of the most consistent storylines heading into the 2025 college football season.

While some analysts believe he’s going to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country, including Joel Klatt, who placed him at the 2nd spot in his top 10 2025 quarterbacks rankings, other analysts like Jake Crain think that’s not an accurate assessment.

CFB Analyst Offers Blunt Views on Whether Arch Manning Will Meet His Hype in 2025

While Klatt placed Arch Manning ahead of experienced quarterbacks like LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, Penn State’s Drew Allar and more, Crain believes most of the takes like this one is for the clicks.

He started off on The Hard Count w/ J.D. PicKell by stating that he understands how this business works, explaining that he knows hot takes and controversial opinions sells in this environment.

However, according to him, the reason he doesn’t believe this to be an accurate analysis is because we haven’t seen enough of Arch Manning on the field to say that he’s one of the top 2 quarterbacks in college football.

Discussing whether Manning will be able to meet his hype in 2025, Crain said:

“I’m not saying he won’t be, but to me, when you start putting Arch Manning with what we know now as your number two, our number one, or really top five, returning quarterbacks through all classes, not new comers, but through all classes, it just reminds me of the guys out Vegas who have the cups with the ball, and they make you try and hear which one is in it.” (2:10)

“So will he end up living up to the hype? I hope so. For him, it’s going to be almost impossible, because that’s how high the hype train is on it, because his last name is Manning and he’s playing at a place like Texas. But I don’t hear enough people talking about Marcel Reed, you know, we talk LaNorris Sellers, we talk DJ Lagway. It’s just to me, this is the parlor trick of off season, quote, unquote, 2025, is, let’s put Arch Manning as our number two quarterback with not enough information, and just watch everybody just, you know, lose their minds.”

Crain further shared that he will have to verify Manning’s ability to rank him that high in any rankings, while he believes the Texas QB can be that good, it’s just a bridge that’s too far for him at the moment.

Arch Manning and Texas will kick off the 2025 college football season against Ohio State in Columbus on August 30.
