    Initially, there wasn’t any official information as to why the standout junior wide receiver isn’t on the field for the Buckeyes on Saturday afternoon. The opening drive of the game came and went, and fans were left dumbfounded when they didn’t see Tate partake in the proceedings.

    Carnell Tate is the second-best wide receiver for Ohio State, behind star receiver Jeremiah Smith. Tate has recorded 711 receiving yards, with seven touchdowns and 39 catches this season, to Smith’s 725 receiving yards, with nine touchdowns, but with significantly more catches at 55.

    Why is Carnell Tate Not Playing Today?

    There aren’t any reports of serious injury, nor was he in the team’s pregame injury report. However, according to the broadcast of the game, he felt some tightness before the game, and Ryan Day is just being cautious with his weapons.

    According to the latest reports by On3’s Pete Nakos, Day has confirmed that Carnell Tate won’t be playing today out of an abundance of caution. The reports said that during pregame warmups, he felt some tightness, and the Buckeyes didn’t want to risk it.

    Going into halftime of their game against Purdue, the Buckeyes were leading 24-3 with a massive input of 24 points in the second quarter of the game. Julian Sayin has thrown for 182 yards, with one touchdown pass. Jeremiah Smith has caught 109 yards of those, and has the sole touchdown reception.
