After Beating Cancer, Deion Sanders Urges Fans to Own Their Health Through New Partnership

Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders’ recent experience with an aggressive form of bladder cancer has left him grateful for health and life in general. Many wondered what happened to Coach Prime during the summer as he was in Texas instead of performing recruiting duties in Colorado.

In July, Sanders and his medical team, during a press conference, revealed he had undergone surgery to remove his bladder and replace it with a new, constructed one. His surgeon, Dr. Janet Kukreja, performed the procedure.

Days after revealing the news, Sanders took to X on Thursday, asking his followers to take after their health. Sanders’ own cancer was detected incidentally during a routine CT scan. That’s why he is asking everyone to check out, and there is no shame in doing so.

“I wasn’t joking! I truly DEPEND on @Depend😂,” Sanders wrote on X. “#ad Ain’t NO SHAME in taking care of yourself. NO SHAME in getting health screenings. And there certainly ain’t NO SHAME in needing added protection or using Depend to stay in the game. That’s not weakness — that’s WINNING.”

Deion Sanders’ above post was in collaboration with Depend, a lifestyle brand. Along with the post, Sanders included some pictures, possibly from his sneakers and collectibles storage, as several of them can be seen placed on the shelves.

Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe echoes similar sentiments after learning about Deion Sanders’ cancer

Even former NFL star tight end Shannon Sharpe echoed the sentiments of getting checked out early for cancer during his recent episode of his podcast Nightcap.

“Coach Prime [Sanders], you know everybody here at Nightcap is sending out thoughts and prayers to you and are glad you are feeling better,” he said.

He then went on to suggest his own family experience, where three of his loved ones died due to cancer. Due to such unfortunate events in his family, even Sharpe started regularly testing for cancer when he was 33. He got diagnosed in 2016, but with early treatment in place, he has been cancer-free since.

“Prostate cancer is one of the more curable cancers if detected early, that’s why early screening is very important, especially if it runs in your family, so please go get tested,” Sharpe said. “My father died of cancer, and two of his brothers died of cancer. So I didn’t wait till the age of 40 to get tested; I started getting tested at 33. And then they were able to detect it [cancer] and I ended up getting a colonoscopy. I got diagnosed in 2016 and got treated in 2017, and I’ve been cancer-free ever since.”

Thus, Deion Sanders and Shannon Sharpe both want their followers to go and get checked out so that it doesn’t get too late.
