Cam Ward’s name seems to come up frequently in conversations related to the New York Giants. It’s no secret that the Giants are on the hunt for a QB, and for a time, it was speculated that they were leaning toward Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Now, it seems Miami’s Cam Ward is the more likely candidate for the Giants’ QB position.
If anyone had doubts, those doubts were cleared during the Miami vs. Iowa State game on Saturday. From the look of things, a Cam Ward-Giants union might be in the works.
Cam Ward Sets NCAA Record at Pop-Tarts Bowl With Giants GM Watching
Giants GM Joe Schoen and director of player personnel Tim McDonnell were both present at the Miami vs. Iowa State Pop-Tarts Bowl, and Cam Ward certainly put on a show. Ward entered the game needing three touchdown passes to beat Case Keenum’s NCAA record of most career passing touchdowns with 155.
By the end of the second quarter, Ward had gotten his third touchdown pass of the game, setting a new record of 156 career passing touchdowns.
From Ward’s perspective, his job was done, and he proceeded to sit out the second half of the game. This sparked controversy, and fans and analysts were quick to share their opinions on the matter, with many questioning his loyalty to his team and the impression this might leave on NFL scouts.
Miami proceeded to lose the game 42-41, after losing their first half lead to the relentless effort of Iowa State. Regardless, Ward showed himself to be both talented and valuable, with many chalking up the loss to Ward’s absence in the second half. Though this was bad for Miami, Ward’s decision might have increased his stock significantly.
Cam Ward Fan Warns Giants’ GM Joe Schoen To Not “Pass Up On Him”
Ward pitched to the Giants when he visited New York for to attend the Heisman ceremony. He understands that the Giants are on the lookout for a QB, and he made sure to let them know he would be great fit.
“I just know if they get a chance to get me, they’re going to get everything I have.” Ward said to reporters. “They’d be getting that dude. They’d be getting somebody who’s someone who doesn’t care about anything, just how he moves, how he operates on and off the field, is confident, somebody who’s going to challenge himself more than he challenges the team. At the end of the day, wins mean everything. You’re getting a winner.”
The Giants definitely need a winner. They’re currently struggling, with a 3-13 record so far in the season.
With one game left, they finish the 2024 season with a rivalry matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Could Cam Ward be the missing piece in the Giants’ lineup? This fan seems to think so. While watching Ward’s performance in the Miami vs. Iowa State Pop-Tarts Bowl, a fan, convinced that Ward would be perfect for the Giants, had this to say.
Cam Ward is slicing up one of the top 4 passing defenses in Iowa St and he's doing it without 3 of his top 4 WRs. Cam Ward is our guy and if Joe Schoen pass up on him that will be worth being fired. This guy is electric #Giants100 pic.twitter.com/cAQsKnZkTA
