With players redshirting and announcing their decisions to transfer after the season, fans have once again attacked the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness in college football.
Yet, on Thursday, Miami QB Cam Ward and Florida QB DJ Lagway are using their NIL to provide aid in the wake of Hurricane Milton’s destruction.
DJ Lagway and Cam Ward Use NIL To Help Hurricane Victims
Ward, a Heisman hopeful, and Lagway, the Gators’ prized five-star true freshman, met on the football field in Week 1, but now they’re are using their NIL platforms to make a difference off of it.
On Thursday, Ward and Lagway teamed up with Leaf to release special Hurricane Milton Relief trading cards. The cards are priced at $9.99 apiece, and all proceeds will support the Florida Disaster Fund. Sales are open until Oct. 17.
Hurricane Milton hit Florida late Wednesday night, leaving over 3 million residents without power and unleashing up to 18 inches of rain in some areas.
Both signal-callers played high school football in Texas, with Ward starring at Columbia High School and Lagway playing two hours north at Willis High School.
Beginning his career at FCS-level Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State and then Miami last offseason, Ward has thrown for 2,219 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions through six games this season, adding another three scores on the ground.
Meanwhile, Lagway has seen action in five games this season, starting his first career game against Samford in Week 2, throwing for 456 yards and three TDs.
Lagway and Ward have more than 97,000 social media followers each and own On3 NIL Valuations of over $1 million, showcasing their influence and ability to make a positive impact in their communities.
