Calls Mount From Fans Against Mark Gronowski as Iowa QB’s Costly Mistake Gives Iowa State Breakthrough Moment

QB Mark Gronowski joined the Iowa Hawkeyes this season as a transfer from South Dakota State. After several strong seasons, there was an expectation that he could step up against stronger competition as a member of the Hawkeyes. However, he did not get much of an opportunity in Week 1 as the team mostly relied on rushing plays.

However, in Week 2, in a rivalry game against Iowa State, Gronowski was given an opportunity to shine. However, halfway through the second quarter, he made a costly mistake, which led to an interception and Iowa State’s breakthrough moment.

This led to many fans in the game thread on Reddit complaining about Gronowski’s play.

“Alright, let’s send Gronowski back to South Dakota,” one fan wrote.

“Bloody hell, Gronowski is AWFUL,” one fan commented.

“In Gronowski’s defense he’s not a very good quarterback,” one fan added.

Fans continued to react in the comments.

“Damn Gronowski is complete ASS lol,” one fan wrote.

“Gronowski now has more passing yards to Iowa state than he has to his own team,” one fan commented.

“So far Gronowski and Iowa haven’t been a great pairing. It gave us the 7-3 no touchdown game and so far hasn’t been great this year,” one fan added.

Mark Gronowski’s Interception Led to an Iowa State Touchdown

While it was not a pick-six play, Mark Gronowski’s interception in the second quarter eventually led to a TD. Once the Cyclones got the ball, they quickly converted for a TD. In just five plays, the Cyclones scored. They ran the ball four times before QB Rocco Becht made a two-yard pass to Benjamin Brahmer for the TD. The extra point was converted, which gave the Cyclones a 13-3 lead in the game.

It was the first TD scoring drive of the game. In the first quarter, the Cyclones managed to put together two strong drives. However, they were forced to kick field goals both times. Then the Hawkeyes scored a field goal of their own early in the second quarter before Mark Gronowski’s costly mistake later in the quarter.

If Iowa State is able to convert the game, it could push them further up the AP Top 25 rankings. They entered the game as the No. 16-ranked team in the nation after winning their first two games of the year.
