Lane Kiffin may be getting a big bonus thanks to Ole Miss’ deep CFP run, but he is also losing players at LSU, including top running back Caden Durham. The Texas native is one of the casualties of LSU’s expected coaching change, with the running back announcing that he will be entering the transfer portal.
Durham has been solid for the Tigers, as he has rushed for 1,258 yards and nine touchdowns in 24 games over his time at Baton Rouge. He is now one of the top running backs in the portal, with a lot of teams possibly vying for his services.

Texas Longhorns
Caden Durham is originally from Texas, and the Longhorns should be a good fit, especially as not one, not two, but four Texas running backs have entered the portal, including starter Quintrevion Wisner. This might leave a vacuum over at the school and Durham might continue his starter duties in another good program. This should also get Arch Manning another quality target for next year.
Penn State Nittany Lions
The Nittany Lions are in rebuilding mode, but that also means that the team is going to start fresh, and a new running back would be a good place to start. Caden Durham should feel right at home here, and he could still be a starter in another elite program.
Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State had done pretty well this year, but the team has been bleeding in the transfer portal so far, losing plenty of good players, including key running backs. An elite RB like Durham could shine here given the proper support.
Arizona State Sun Devils
It is another school that has done well during the season but is now facing transfer portal problems. The team would make an excellent fit, though they might still be looking for an elite quarterback to pair with Durham should he choose this program.
North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina has had a dismal year for 2025, with Bill Belichick’s drama overshadowing everything. However, he still needs to rebuild this team, so an elite running back would be a big help in that regard. Caden Durham could be attracted by the prospect of playing under one of the greatest coaches to have ever lived, plus those NFL connections from a six-time Super Bowl winner would not hurt.
