Clemson Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik recently offered an insight into why he had a bit of struggles in the 2025 college football season that may have derailed his chances for an individual award. On Wednesday, Dec. 16, collegiate football reporter Jon Blau posted on his X/Twitter account about how he interviewed Klubnik and the young talent detailed insights into the moments he did not play up to par this year.
Klubnik then admitted that he feels tremendously beaten up this year, given the rigorous schedule he faced, where he had to survive practice sessions and then play games on the weekend. For the Austin, Texas native, he had to go through the rough slew of practices and games while dealing with his body, which he deemed not at a 100% state. Eventually, Klubnik missed out on the 2025 Heisman Trophy that he was projected to win.
Clemson QB Cade Klubnik says he’s been so beat up this year, he’s sometimes not practiced Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday and “limped through Thursday.”
“Whether it’s 60 percent or 70 percent of what my body has, to go play on a Saturday.”
But he’ll be rested for the bowl game.

As it stands, Klubnik, among other candidates to win the prestigious individual trophy, lost out on the Heisman as Indiana Hoosiers star Fernando Mendoza was named to it this year. Nevertheless, Klubnik and the rest of the Tigers enjoyed a respectable 2025 campaign as they finished with an overall record of 7-5 (4-4 ACC). They are set to face the Penn State Nittany Lions on Dec. 27 for the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl.

Cade Klubnik Confirmed That His Thumb Has Almost Fully Recovered
Cade Klubnik said his thumb is back to near 100 percent. Was throwing the football today after taking just mental reps on Monday.
“I love spinning the football, it was fun to be out there and throwing. It’s a long season sometimes you need to rest.”

In another report by Jon Blau on the same day, Cade Klubnik was asked about the state of his thumb as it was recovering from a recent injury. The senior then revealed that it is actually progressing towards getting better and that he is on the right track to getting back to his full strength. With this, it can be expected that Clubnik will be back in the swing of things come coach Dabo Swinney‘s Tigers’ lone postseason matchup later this month.
