Clemson Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik suffered a sprained ankle during the Tigers’ Week 7 win over Boston College. This has raised question marks about whether he’ll be able to suit up in Saturday’s game against SMU.
According to Tigerillustrated.com, Klubnik, who tweaked his ankle during the second half of Clemson’s 41–10 victory, hasn’t done much practice this week. After Klubnik hurt his ankle, the quarterback didn’t return to the game.
Therefore, he will be a game-time decision. With that in mind, the Tigers are prepared with the thought of keeping backups Christopher Vizzina and Trent Pearman ready to play.

Vizzina will likely be given the start if Klubnik isn’t ready for the SMU game since he’s been getting additional reps in practice this week. On Wednesday, head coach Dabo Swinney spoke about Vizzina’s game readiness. The quarterback replaced Cade Klubnik in that Boston College game and played 18 snaps.
“I’m just worried about trying to beat SMU. I’m not worried about any of that stuff. CV has done everything he needs to do in practice. That’s the only opportunity he’s had. So that’s what we go by. He’s had limited playing time, and when he’s had a chance to play he’s done fine. But I’m not worried about next year. I ain’t worried about next week. I’m worried about having a good Thursday and trying to win the game Saturday.” Swinney said.

Dabo Swinney on Cade Klubnik’s Injury
Cade Klubnik was already dealing with an ankle soreness before he tweaked it, according to head coach Dabo Swinney. Earlier on Wednesday, Swinney said about Klubnik’s practice status:
“We’ve just been taking our time with him. He’s gone from day-to-day to hour-to-hour. And hopefully by tomorrow he’ll be minute-to-minute. But we’ll put out a report tomorrow night, first one, and we’ll keep going. He’s literally getting better every hour. But we’ve just been smart with him, and he’s been able to do what he needed to do.”
After the 1-3 start to the season, Klubnik gained ground over the last two games. Over the games against Boston College and North Carolina, the quarterback completed 44 of 54 passes for 534 yards and five touchdowns.
It remains to be seen if Clemson (3-3 and 2-2 in the ACC) will have the services of their quarterback against SMU ( 4-2 and 2-0).
