BYU Among Power Five Disappointments After Failing To Produce a Draft Pick, but 8 Players Still Get Their NFL Shot

After months of preparation and Pro Day performances, the 2025 NFL Draft concluded without a single Cougar’s name being called at BYU. For a Power Five program that has recently produced several exceptional professionals, it was a disappointing result.

BYU’s NFL Draft Drought Raises Questions As Players Sign As UDFAs

The weekend wasn’t without hope, though. As undrafted free agents, eight former BYU players signed with NFL organizations in an attempt to establish their value at the highest level.

    Tyler Batty- Minnesota Vikings

Among the most seasoned and effective defenders in BYU’s recent history was Batty. During his tenure in Provo, the defensive end recorded 16.5 sacks and 224 total tackles. The Minnesota Vikings found enough potential in him to give him a chance, even though other clubs passed on him during the draft.

Batty has a good chance of remaining in the league because of her high drive and demonstrated leadership.

    Jakob Robinson- San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers added cornerback Jakob Robinson, who brought an aggressive style of play and a talent for forcing turnovers. Despite being deemed undersized for his role, Robinson’s agility and reflexes make him a possible addition to special teams or nickel packages.

    Caleb Etienne- New York Giants

Offence tackles Caleb Etienne, who is 6’7″ and contributes NFL size and raw strength. Even if his technique could need some work, the New York Giants found enough potential in his body and versatility to give him a shot at a roster spot.

    Aidan Robbins- Cleveland Browns

Aidan Robbins made an impression with his powerful running style during his one season at BYU. Now, Robbins contributes depth to the Browns’ backfield, and he plans to leave his imprint during preseason and training camp.

    Isaac Rex- Detroit Lions

Tight end Isaac Rex became a red-zone favourite for the Cougars over his career, tallying 24 receiving touchdowns. The Lions picked him up as a UDFA, likely intrigued by his size, reliable hands, and blocking potential.

    Kedon Slovis- Indianapolis Colts

Slovis, a former quarterback for Pitt and USC, completed his collegiate education at BYU. Despite his inconsistent 2024 season, the Colts added him to their quarterback room as a developmental prospect based on his entire body of work and arm talent.

    Max Tooley- Houston Texans

Max Tooley was a popular linebacker and a reliable defensive presence at Provo. His special team potential and football IQ make him a great UDFA candidate to add to a team’s 53-man roster stealthily.

    Ryan Rehkow- Kansas City Chiefs

When Ryan Rehkow was a college student, he was among the nation’s best specialists. Now, he will have an opportunity to fight for one of the most demanding positions in sports with the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs.

Although the team’s overall 2024 issues may be reflected in the lack of a BYU draft pick, the program is still producing pro-calibre talent, as evidenced by the number of UDFAs who were able to find a way into the NFL. Now comes the next chapter, which BYU supporters will be watching with great interest.
