Former Utah State EDGE Byron Vaughns has officially exited the transfer portal. The former Aggies defensive end garnered quite a bit of interest, but his long journey has come to a close as he’s committed to the Baylor Bears.
Byron Vaughns Commits to Baylor
Vaughns entered the transfer portal all the way back when it opened this past December. Leaving Utah State behind, Vaughns racked up an impressive two-year stint with the Aggies.
In two seasons, Vaughns racked up 100 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. Those latter numbers, however, weren’t indicative of his pass-rushing skill. Far more productive than his 6.5 sacks may initially suggest, Vaughns was a highly coveted athlete in the portal.
A Fort Worth, Texas native, Vaughns chose Baylor on Wednesday via social media.
“Person>Football Player,” the tweet started. “I want to thank @CoachPowledge @CoachDJ_ for the opportunity.”

Vaughns insisted he is “FULLY COMMITTED” to Baylor after being linked to multiple schools during his lengthy transfer journey.
Thanking coach Matthew Powledge and coach Dennis Johnson for the opportunity, it was clear that Baylor’s defensive coordinator and defensive line coach, respectively, were all-in on Vaughns and his skill set.
Though Vaughns missed out on the spring circuit in Waco, the best may be yet to come for the big man off the edge. Powledge and head coach Dave Aranda are known for their defensive prowess, and Johnson is a rising DL coach in the college football world.
Continuing their ascension together this fall, the pairing of Vaughns and Baylor seems like a dream matchup.
