Bryce Underwood Transfer Portal: Kyle Whittingham Uncertain On Michigan QB’s Future Ahead Of Sophomore Season

The January transfer portal presents a great opportunity for teams to strengthen their rosters ahead of the new college football season. On the flip side, programs don’t want to be at the receiving end of players leaving them for other teams.

After finishing their 2025 campaign with an overall record of 9-3, the scandal-ridden Michigan, under new head coach Kyle Whittingham, have been navigating their star quarterback Bryce Underwood’s status with the program ahead of the new season.

However, a recent update surrounding Bryce’s future with the Wolverines will excite a lot of Michigan fans.

In a recent conversation with Barstool Sports’ founder and owner Dave Portnoy, Wolverines’ head coach Kyle Whittingham revealed how Bryce might just stay with the program next season.

When Portnoy, who also happens to be a Michigan superfan, asked Kyle Whittingham about Underwood’s status with the Michigan-based program, the head coach responded in a positive manner.

“I think Bryce is in a good place right now and I think he might be getting an announcement here pretty soon”, Whittingham stated in his conversation with Portnoy (0:26).

“He seems to really enjoy his time here and he’s one of the team leaders. He’s a young guy, but he’s one of the team leaders obviously by virtue of the position. He is a guy that we think is going to be a part of what we’re doing going forward, but you never know until it’s a done deal”, Whittingham further elaborated (0:32).

Bryce Underwood’s 2025 campaign at Michigan, over the course of 13 games, saw him throw for 2,428 yards with 11 touchdowns, while also recording nine interceptions.

Jason Beck Named Wolverines’ New Offensive Coordinator

While the Wolverines look set on the players’ front ahead of the new season, the Michigan-based program also reinforced their coaching roster with a new addition.

Head coach Kyle Whittingham recently welcomed Jason Beck as the Wolverines’ new offensive coordinator.

Beck’s arrival to Michigan comes on the backdrop of head coach Whittingham also signing his ex-Utah staff, with the likes of Freddie Whittingham, Micah Simon, and Koy Detmer Jr. all set to feature on the sidelines for Michigan come next season.
