The hype for 2025 QB Bryce Underwood is the most we’ve seen for a high school prospect in some time. Underwood, the incoming Michigan Wolverines freshman, has received a 100 rating from On3, making him the highest-rated recruit in the site’s history.
What makes Underwood such a highly rated recruit?
Underwood will step on campus at Michigan with expectations as high as possible. The Bellville, Michigan native flipped his commitment from LSU to Michigan in November. He announced his flip with the caption “Hometown Hero.”
Underwood is expected to be the savior of a Wolverines program that is not used to losing. He looks to bring Michigan back to the top of the college football world — where they believe they belong.
Not many 17-year-old pocket passers enter the collegiate ranks with an NFL body. Underwood does. Measuring in at 6’4″ and 214 pounds, he will be a sizeable QB even before he can benefit from a college lifting program. While he may still be growing into his frame and learning how to use it, his physical traits are already astonishing.
“Underwood has elite size, but unlike some of the guys he’s being compared to, he’s advanced as a passer,” said College Sports Network’s Will Helms to describe the 17-year-old.
Underwood displays a strong feel and instincts for the game as a pocket passer. He understands progressions and reads the entire field well. Underwood shows maturity and poise under center and projects as a signal-caller who will excel at playing within the pocket. While his athleticism is at a high level, he is still learning how to use it as a scrambler.
Underwood’s most impressive trait may be his arm talent. The 6’4″ QB is capable of driving throws to any part of the field. He flashed strong deep-ball ability with touch and lead throws looking natural for him.
He’s incredibly accurate and his ability to anticipate throws is outstanding. Underwood’s mechanics aren’t perfect, and his footwork is sometimes lacking, but with some corrections, his ceiling is sky-high.

Underwood brought Bellville High School its first two state championships. He set the tone early on in his high school career by scoring 45 total TDs as a freshman. He’s a proven winner and will bring strong leadership as he matures.
Underwood instantly becomes the Wolverines’ highest-rated offensive recruit ever, and despite the team’s down year in 2024, the momentum and expectations for Michigan football are soaring.
