Bernie Kosar, a Cleveland Browns legend, has been very vocal in his admiration for rookie Shedeur Sanders’ work ethic and professional demeanor in his first NFL training camp.
On his afternoon drive show, Kosar said it all when praising the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Kosar singled out Sanders’ drive for excellence, pointing out that the 23-year-old showed up an hour early to practice to train on conditioning and techniques.
“I love how he’s handling some things. He’s out here an hour early, and that’s working out type stuff, and then he’s one of the last guys here,” Kosar observed during his recent commentary.

When asked about his work ethic and terrific community service pertaining to off-field fan duties, this is what Shedeur had to say:
“Just being a normal human. I don’t think anything is hard when it comes to that. It’s just something I internally feel like doing.” (3:27)
“At this point in life, I don’t think I would fake anything because there’s no need. Everything is just genuinely how I am,” Shedeur Sanders added.
As Kosar likes to point out, it is that kind of approach that gives the Browns, and the NFL, showing signs of professionals developing at an early age. The Browns have to be excited seeing that mentality when they wanted to draft him.
Shedeur Sanders’ journey to Cleveland had an unconventional route. Expected to be one of the best or at least a high draft pick was selected at the 144th place overall in the fifth round. The slide was somewhat unexpected given Sanders’ accolades and achievements at Colorado.

Browns’ Competitive Quarterback Room Creates Unique Environment for Shedeur Sanders
The Browns currently have a number of QBs on the roster competing for time and a starting spot, including Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel competing against each other. This is a little unique as its not everyday you come across such a competitive roster.
Still, Sanders isn’t allowing the draft position to dictate how he approaches professional football. He’s continually proving his value through being prepared, and making plays like what’s been highlighted through some of Bernie Kosar’s notes.
The former quarterback is particularly impressed with Sanders’ maturity level at such an early age. This is not just showing up early or leaving late, this is more about understanding what it takes to be successful at the professional football level the highest level.
Shedeur Sanders signed a four-year contract worth $4.6 million, which included a signing bonus of $447,380. These numbers might look mediocre compared to the first-round picks, but they illustrate an opportunity which Sanders looks keen to maximize through his preparation and style of play.
