LSU head coach Brian Kelly gave Tiger fans a reason to laugh ahead of the team’s upcoming Week 8 matchup against Vanderbilt. With the game scheduled for an early 11 a.m. kickoff in Nashville, Kelly took a lighthearted approach when asked about the timing.
The LSU head coach was clearly joking, but his comment quickly made waves across social media. Many fans embraced the humor, sharing his message as a rallying cry for the weekend.
“For the fans, start drinking earlier,” Kelly SAID. “Bloody Mary, start at six.”

Kelly also revealed that his team is going to practice on Thursday and Friday at 11. He said the players will wake up in time, have their pre-practice meal and get to work. They will have ample time to get used to the timing.
Early games are often tough for traveling fanbases, and Kelly’s playful advice tapped into the long-standing tailgating culture that LSU supporters are known for. It also showed a more relaxed, personable side of the coach, who has been trying to keep spirits high as the Tigers push through a demanding SEC schedule.
Beyond the viral moment, LSU enters the Vanderbilt game looking to build momentum after a mixed stretch of performances this season. The Tigers have shown flashes of offensive dominance but have struggled to find consistency on defense.
Kelly has stressed the importance of discipline and execution in recent weeks, especially with key conference matchups looming. Facing Vanderbilt presents a good opportunity for LSU to regain its rhythm and confidence.
The Commodores have struggled in SEC play, and the Tigers will aim to capitalize early and set the tone. While Kelly’s “drinking early” comment was meant in jest, it fits the mood around the upcoming game.

Brian Kelly on Diego Pavia
LSU bounced back from its loss to Ole Miss with a 20-10 win over South Carolina in Week 7. The Tigers finally showed signs of balance, with the offense clicking for most of the game and the defense maintaining its usual dominance.
Now, things get tougher. LSU enters its most demanding stretch of the year, beginning with a matchup against No. 17 Vanderbilt. The Commodores have shed their old reputation and are proving to be a legitimate SEC threat.
Much of that credit goes to quarterback Diego Pavia, who has been one of the conference’s most efficient playmakers this season.
“They’re the number two in the SEC in points scored,” Kelly said. “They’re a top rushing team in the country. And we know where it starts. With Pavia, an outstanding quarterback, he’s the point guard and makes it happen.”
LSU’s defense will have its hands full trying to contain him, especially given Vanderbilt’s explosive offense and high scoring rate. For Brian Kelly’s team, the goal will be to maintain defensive discipline and keep the Commodores’ dual-threat leader from taking over the game.
