“Fire Brian Kelly”: LSU Fans Explode as Vanderbilt Pulls Off Stunning 31-24 Upset in SEC Clash

Brian Kelly-led LSU faced a disappointing 31-24 loss against Vanderbilt in Week 8, which was their second loss of the season after losing against Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss in a 24-19 matchup in Week 5.

The Tigers hadn’t lost a game against Vanderbilt in 35 years, a record that is now broken under Kelly’s leadership, and fans are not happy.

LSU is now on the brink of losing its college football playoff contention, as Kelly completes his fourth season with the Tigers, making fans demand a James Franklin-like firing for him.

“FIRE BRIAN KELLY,” one fan demanded.

“Gee, why am I not surprised. Until Brian Kelly is gone and Nuss is gone, this will be the continuing result,” another fan took a shot at the LSU head coach.

“Looking forward to Brian Kelly getting canned so that LSU games are fun to watch again. We really live in a world where Vanderbilt is a superior football program,” another fan shared their thoughts on Kelly’s future with the Tigers.

“100 million dollars for Brian Kelly and you can’t score more than 25 pts against a decent football team lmao,” another fan trolled the Tigers.

“It sucks to lose. It sucks even more when your head coach is Brian Kelly,” another fan expressed frustration.

“Garrett Nussmeier seemingly playing somewhat better. LSU needs to fire Brian Kelly this guy was supposed to be one of the best QBs ever and he’s only gotten worse,” another fan wrote.

What Is LSU HC Brian Kelly’s Buyout?

Brian Kelly is one of the highest-paid coaches in all of college football, with only seven other coaches being paid more.

Kelly is set to earn $10,175,000 in salary in 2025 without bonuses, leaving fans even more furious about LSU’s struggles under his wing.

If LSU were to fire Kelly as of December 1, 2025, without cause, they would have to pay him a total amount of $53,293,333.

Before the season started, Kelly felt confident in the roster he built this year, calling it “the best roster” they’ve had since he joined the program.

“Our job was to build (the program) back up. And nobody wants to hear that. And I’m OK with that… I know what I need to do, and what we needed to do is build this roster. And it was going to take some time. And we’re in a much better place. I’m not saying we’ve arrived, but this is the best roster that I have had since I’ve been here,” Kelly told The Athletic.

After the devastating Vanderbilt loss, LSU is set to face Texas A&M in Week 9.
