Too Many Red Flags? Breaking Down Michigan’s Rocky Road to a Big Ten Title Run

While the Michigan Wolverines are prepared to start five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood this season, there is a chance that they could still face a tough road in the Big Ten this season.

That is due to what they couldn’t accomplish last season and their 2025 schedule.

    Michigan Underperformed in 2024

The Wolverines have come in at No. 34 on College Sports Network’s power rankings list of FBS teams.

In head coach Sherrone Moore’s first full season as the team’s leader, the Wolverines struggled to play consistently all year.

While they won eight games and beat Ohio State at the end of the season, they were dominated by other ranked teams, such as Texas, Illinois, and Oregon.

Additionally, they could only beat unranked teams like Arkansas State at home by 10 points, which doesn’t tell the college football world that the Wolverines are ready to contend for a national title.

In the 2025 season, the Wolverines will face Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wisconsin, USC, Washington, Michigan, and Ohio State.

That schedule doesn’t look to be the easiest in the nation, especially after Moore’s team lost five games last year.

But perhaps the star quarterback in Underwood can help turn the tide this season on offense.

What Would a Successful Season Look Like for Michigan in 2025?

Simply put, Moore needs to prove that he is the right man to lead the program forward. Of course, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes again could give Michigan fans confidence.

But this Michigan team has to find a way to win 10 games in the regular season at the very least, along with seven games in the conference.

If they can do that, they could be in the running to win the conference and be in contention for the College Football Playoff.

However, if the Wolverines hover around a .500 record, Moore could be in trouble on the hot seat.

He was entrusted to keep this team in title contention after former head coach Jim Harbaugh left for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Progress has to be shown. Otherwise, coaches will lose their jobs, and it doesn’t matter if it is college football or the NFL.

Look for Moore to at least show some progress this season, especially with Underwood coming to town as his potential starter.
